Let me start by saying that I have nothing against GEC, they just cost more than I need to spend on a knife when I have plenty of less expensive options to satisfy me. Their offerings are definitely appealing with the almost lost renditions of patterns from the past that nobody else offers anymore, but I just don't want them enough to pay what they cost or deal with the limited runs they do.

Then there's the drop point H20 fixed blade, I really like them and they were not expensive at all. Under $50 iirc.
I want one but they no longer make it, the K31 paring knife they currently offers similar and only costs $32 but it's a paring knife and not exactly the same.

Anyone think they'll come back out ?
I definitely don't want to pay what an out of production GEC knife goes for, so if not I'll probably just have to make myself something similar.

I have one and it’s a good piece but if you can’t find it want something just about as good just get an old hickory paring knife as it is very similar in overall construction and feel but it is way cheaper

I've thought about it, or something from Russell Green River.

I LOVE my H20, it's probably my most used knife. I received it as a gift from a generous Porch Member.
I never carry it but I keep it handy around the house. It usually sits on my desk or on the kitchen counter.
I hope they do another run for you some day, or that you find a helpful Porch Member to help you out with one.

They'll probably make something similar, but who knows when or if. I kick myself for not getting one from @knifeswapper with those nice pocket sheaths he paired with them. But you can't get every knife! Haha

I hope you find one!

They have run them a few different times, if memory serves. I would expect they will again.
Edit: or not. You never know for sure.;)

Just a thought, but some makers, especially newer ones, might be able to help with something that utilitarian at an affordable price.

There are plenty of options out there , the GEC H20 just happens to be one fixed blade that I want.
By all means get one. I don't own any of their fixed blade options. I could easily see a whitetail hunter choosing one of their small fixed blades as that is pretty much all you need. I believe Hess knives still get their blanks from GEC.

I agree that their knives are more costly on average than say Case. But I think they're better made overall (on average). If I were you, I would get one of their slip joints (say the 86 model) and see how you like it.

The big problem for me is the limited availability, you have to hurry up and buy one before they sell out or pay up later on the secondary market.
This ads a fast pace to the knife hobby that I'm not interested in.

If I didn't have a fixed blade I carried every day anyway (kellam wolverine) my Dexter Russell paring knife in a kydex sheath would definitely be a good contender. Haven't had it long but it's a kick ass little knife

How come your micarta is such a nice colour? Mine's on the kitchen magnet, is certainly a good kitchen prep knife but its handle slabs are matte and rather light in colour.

Thanks, Will

Hey I was just at the factory store and they have them. Maybe give them a call tomorrow.

Man, just a great experience as always. I'm gonna post in more depth on the let's talk GEC thread.

The Howards are great people
Wurrwolf generously offered me a used one he had received and I graciously accepted.
I might give them a call anyways and see, thanks for the heads up.

Here's a heads up for someone. Based on John's praise for his H20, I called GEC this morning and they had 2 H20 drop points in natural canvas micarta in stock. Needless to say, they are down to just 1. :D
