i aint catchin nothin

I hit my boyhood lake in Queens. NYC twice this week on my way home from work. First night I got a 22" pickeral, 3 10-14" bass, and a few bluegills. Last night I got 56 Bluegills and nine turtles using wax worms! There was a guy there using minnows ( illegal in NYC) and he was injecting them with a needed and garlic oil? He said he read it attracts all types of fish? That said he was only get turtles going after his minnows while I was there....
Really? Is anything legal in NYC anymore? But yes i have heard nothing but great results from wax worms. i'll have to give them a try

NY State made use of minnows that are not certified free of illness or from the same lake you are fishing in illegal to use, and NYC has a catch and release only rule, so you can not use bait fish from the lake you fish in, and there are no local bait dealers with certified bait....Therefore no live minnows....

Congrats! I managed a bit of fishing myself this weekend. I canoed the local stream and pulled in a quanty of redeye and smallmouths using Worden Rooster Tails in Fire Tiger. Developed by Howard Worden in the late 1950's, so I guess it is outdated like me! ;)

I have been using Worden Rooster Tails for 20+ years and they are my top lure for getting fish, but I am mostly a live bait guy....

Huh, I've had this exact rooster tail in my tackle box for a few years but never have tried it. Looks like ill be giving it a try

First of all you have to have water. all kidding a side, fishing areas where water levels rise and fall consistantly usually arn't good places to fish. they usually like spots where water levels are consistant. Water color, structure, time of day, and water tempature all matter. If the bait doesn't work try something else. Look around and see what is in the water. The conditions can tell you alot. Some times things just dont work...

But some time things are all right and you hit the one you have waited for, for a life time. 10.6 lbs eat your heart out. cought today about 2:00pm on a Rapala Count down # 9 brown trout (my go to)...

I know in the last two weeks the high mountain lake trout have basically turned off chasing spinners and spoons and are going crazy for live bait.

Well I dont know about the HIGH LAKEs cause I'm at and like to stay at sea level... But I know all the eggs recently hatched and there's alot of bait fish in the water and around the shore line. The big fish are fat and happy and are hunting them. If you are going to use lures, try a small swim bait or something that repersents the food source they are currently hunting...

Been using roostertails for 30 plus years. If there was only one casting lure that I could bring for trout in the lakes and rivers here it would be a rooster 1/8oz in pink and green. If the fishing is slow, rig half a small worm and jig a little while you reel in. Deadly in spring.

I spent most of my life in North Arkansas canoing and fishing small streams and that particular bait has always been a winner in clear or tinted water. When it doesn't produce though, I use either the silver or red rooster tail or a Rebel Wee Craw. I have those in several sizes and colors as well. Live bait is good in some types of water and for some species of fish. I don't have much luck with it in clearer, faster water like I do with the spinnerbaits (match the lure weight to line weight and current). My local river here is very much like Ozark streams in clarity, current and fish species. I bought two more copies of the Fire Tiger Roostertail last night because I was down to only two of them in my favorite weight. (#208 FRT 1/8th oz.)
