I always wondered how one of my knives would look in a Paul Long sheath...

Now I know. A customer sent one of mine over to get one made.:D I was a little nervous. (Paul has seen the work of the BEST...)

I am pretty darn jazzed with the pics from Mr. Long that I got today. There is a Ban Tang knife with a pouch sheath next to it, also for the same customer, and a very nice little package as well!

I'll open with a couple pics of the knife, it's a 9" recurve fighter that was inspired by Charlie Ochs' "Special Forces Bowie" on the customer's request. 52100 steel, 416 SS fittings, black linen micarta.

Thanks for looking, all.

Looks like a good matchup, a great looking knife with an equally great sheath. Nice package.

Salem, I think I see a little gap under the guard in the 3rd pic. :p
Just bustin' ya of course. I know you've stressed over this knife. And it paid off. That is a sweet looking recurve!
One question: What made you choose this particular orientation for your mark compared to the usual way we see it done?

Salem, no need to stress over that knife. It was about as good as any that come through the shop.....you done GOOD! I took the liberty of spending a few minutes around your web site. Very interesting and informative. I hope we have a chance to "collaborate" again in the future, and at least we share a mighty fine customer and friend in Steven. I will be delivering this package to Steven at Blade 2011. I hope to be able to meet you there as well.

Best Regards,

Paul

Dealing with both of you gentleman on this project has been both a pleasure and an honor for me.
You both share a wonderful dedication to your respective art and a work/business ethic second to none.

I hope that we have the opportunity to all meet together in the near future. I KNOW that we will be doing another project together soon!

Thank you both so much.:)

Steven

Salem,
what a beautiful job, congrats
it is truly special to see your hard work come together, the sheath looks great as well

Wow, thanks guys. Once more, this has been a pleasure.

Pat, don't worry about it, you can bust on me whenever you like. As for the mark, I thought it over before etching and since it's kind of a classic "big knife" the bowie thing to do would be place it like a stamp. My normal orientation is maybe a bit "new school" on some of my knives. I like how it turned out. Plus, it gave me chance to use the little stencil.

Great looking knife.
and.......I don't think anyone could have done a better job matching a sheath to the knife.
I like the makers mark as well. Looks really good on this knife.

Well Steven (Alphaholic), you sir have great taste in knives, and sheaths!

Both the Salem Straub and the Ban Tang are real keepers, and I would love owning both!

The sheaths are just fantastic as well. Paul Long really contributes to the sheath forum as well.

Fantastic package!!!  :) But you are ruined now! I thought I could make a pretty decent sheath and then all of a sudden I started seeing my knives in Paul Long leather and I haven't touched my leather tools since! :D

Great knife and sheath, top notch!

Salem, that is very unique and very much your style. I really like your classic style and use of more modern handle materials.

I don't know Salem. That knife looks fantastic naked! Not that putting on fine threads from time to time isn't fun too, but it's hard to beat sweet curves in the buff! The maker's mark is as sweet as the rest!

Nick, you got a chuckle out of me on that one.
