The curse of music.....
I was visiting friends up in South Dakota a few years back. They lived not far from Rushmore, outside of Rapid.
They had organized a little pool party that summer, in the evening. They had set out food on tables poolside, a couple of coolers full of drinks, and somebody had carried a stereo out and set it up with speakers.
Folks were going in and out of the back door which led into the kitchen to get this or that. The door was a bit elevated with two wooden stairs leading down to a concrete patio, and the light was such that the area below those stairs was dark, in the shadows.
During a lull in the music.... my friend, stepping out of the door to stand on the steps, noticed a quiet buzzing sound, from under the stairs.
Indeed, it was a 3' rattlesnake which had crawled under the stairs. He had likely been buzzing his head off, who knows for how long, but nobody could hear him over the music. Everyone who stepped up or down those stairs passed within a couple of feet of him.....
My friend got a hoe and gently hooked him out from under the stairs, carried him to his pickup, put him in the bed (which was empty), and drove him down the road about 1/4 mile to put him out onto a wooded hillside.
I really never like a lot of noise around me......
