So, you not going or what? This is cool, Mark! Happy for you!

Will this mean IG's tenure as powerless temporary moderator has come to an end? Pity, he'd already ordered his crown and scepter. :( (New Years Eve hat and noisemaker. He already had the orb; took his hat off and Pledged his head!)

Hey Guys,

I'm still out here, and unfortunately.......still looking.
The owner of the land is a bit removed from reality in my opinion.

We're going to keep on looking. Have our sites set on something maybe just a tad smaller and a bit less remote. I wouldn't mind being even further out in the boonies, but the creature comforts of others has to come before my dreams of being a wildman.

Coule more days and I.G's rein of terror will end :)

Good luck Mark, I hope you find your castle in the mountains.

Living out in the boonies really does take a toll on some people...

We made our offer on the land contingent upon my final inspection of the property and a review of the bid on putting in the access road to the home site. The bid made on putting in the road was $2200. Unfortunately , this bid was made with the assumption that the road would be punched in at a very easy spot up to the home site. One small problem...

The easy way would cut through the neighbors land and she was NOT going to let that happen.

The other option of putting in the road where the property touched the easement would have cost in excess of $20,000:grumpy:

Oh well, were going to keep on looking and hopefully more will be on the Spring market.

wow Mark
if it were me I'd offer less in light of the road, buy a used front-end loader (back-hoe) with hoe
, with all that land there must be pit run gravel in one of those hills,
you'd have your own stumpage to you wouldn't have to pay for and your labor.
you could and would need one anyway to dig your foundation
build your road, clear stumps and trade her in when done for a farm tractor, dozer or what have you or just sell her out right.,
you'd make money in the long run of it. just an idea that would keep you busy :D

Deb and I have been doing some serious rethinking about a near future move out West.

Prices on housing and land is just too overpriced with the interest rates being so low.

We might still make a move in the future. But it looks like we'll be staying in the South for a while.

I'm happy and sad about this.

We are doing some property shopping this w/e in SW Va near the Blue ridge. I need the hills and the Blue ridge is a nice area.

This could be a great stepping stone for the future , or maybe we'll end up being happy with what we find and stay.

Anyway....Here we be :)

Mark, Sorry to hear things didn't work out. Sounds like a wise decision to pull out. When we first moved to the northwest we had a strong interest in a piece of property that was landlocked and just decided to forget it. Hopefully something will come up that will work for you and your wife.

Mark, as long as you are someplace where you can be happy, that's what really counts. :) Good hunting to you!
