Does it ever make you wonder why you were not born a car guy....or a stamp man....or a firearms guy....

I mean I like guns and cars to...but knives....

Why is it that the sharpened edge intrigues me so....

Anyone else wonder why?

Anyone have answers?

.

I always wonder why, I don't always use them every second I am awake, and even sometimes I could go a day with out using a knife, but yet I continue to buy...:(

:thumbup::D

Ok so I have some idea. My dear old Pops has alway carried a knife.

Back in the day it was one of those SAK's with all the bells and whistles. Nowadays it is a Benchmade...

He took us to Mexico when I was young to see some of the family...Bought me a knife on that trip...I have a pic of me holding it.

But why that sparked this lifelong love of this....no idea..

maybe that was enough....

Always found that stuff interesting since I was a little kid. I also find telescope, binoculars, microscopes and cameras interesting. Guess I'm an equipment junky.

Who knows? I'm glad I'm into what I'm into, and that's about anything mechanical; machinery, tools, guns, knives, and gadgets in general. For me, it's not just the tools, etc., but what I can do with them. Making something from raw materials is just awesome! I love the art in mechanisms, and tools. It can be almost anything milled, and shaped into some sort of machine part, or tool.

Great, now I'm in the mood to build, or tweak something...

no idea, maybe they are simple yet so efficient. Anyone envious of a butcher who gets to use their knife and yet get paid for it? :)

I think I'm more with Rich357,I'm more of an equipment guy,I've carried a knife since I was about 7 or 8,but also guns, compasses, pocketwatches, tools, vehicles, cameras, now GPS,if it's something that works and simplifies my life,I want to try it.In my opinion, they are all related.

You know thats funny Heavy, I mean I used to be a car guy. I modded cars out to get there best performance and look, but eventually got bored with it or it took SO much money to get to the next level. I am a firearms guy almost as much as I am a knife guy. But no one calls me that "firearms guy" they call me that "knife guy"....funny thing.

Knives entrigue me due to there everday application. I mean I can carry a different knife every day, multiples a day and maybe get a look here or there. The same can not be said with a firearm. There simplicity as mentioned above keeps me interested. Its just cool how two flat surfaces meet to form an edge that has the ability to seperate material.

As a young boy my grandfather was a butcher. Not the kind that works in the fancy slaughter houses , but the kind that would come to your house and kill and cut-up a cow or pig for you. He also worked at the local slaughter house(total employees 2,my grand-pa and the owner). I would go to work with him sit on a stool and watch all day. I was probably 4 or 5. I think that started my fascination with knives. I to this day carry a Case Trapper (yellow handle) just like Pappy's.

Besides being a knife guy, I'm a duct tape collector and electric fan collector.

I certainly could be a car guy or a gun guy or a watch guy but money and circumstances limit those.

It's a 30 year phase I'm going through.:) I've always been a pack rat of something or other though.

I am a guy... but I am a knife-slut! One day, I love one knife - gotta get a new model. It arrives - and I plan the next purchase. Fickle - pure fickle. Yeah, I like revolvers, too. It's hard to get them sent to your door, however. Of course, I skirted that... I got a 'Curio & Relic' FFL - and had a couple of 1895 Nagant revolvers delivered. I have to make ammo for my revolvers - and go to the range to use them. Of course, the skyrocketing cost of ammo, or, in my case, reloading components, combined with higher gas prices have curtailed much of my range trips.

Of course, I can open the knife box - directly from the postman - and sit on my back deck and whittle in minutes. And... a few days later, and here comes another one... I am fickle, for sure. I have even been known to get an old one out - and visit the deck with it to whittle with... no shame!

A great find from a few years back - a 'Goebel's Crystal' hex-sided lighted glass display case, with a storage stand below, for $75 from a local collectibles store. My wife outgrew it - and now my knives have a home, safely locked on display - with their sheaths & boxes locked below. I am a proud - and vain - knife-slut. No Fed #4473 form to fill out, either. I have to admit, my 'collection' once fit in my sock drawer...

BTW, I know of no cure...

Ok, I must admit it, I am a knife guy plus tool nut. Gotten every 18 volt Dewalt made, but knives are my passion. I think I have a problem. Most of it fed by this forum.:)

Because we are not right in the head. That's what my wife says. What's that? You got another pair of shoes. Everyone should have a hobby, but knives have become a passion.
We only live once, so enjoy the days you have left.

For me its not just knives, but any edged weapons. My guess is that my ancestors are Native American,Scots, and Viking.;-). Oh,I like flashlights too

must have something to do with going on a holiday and getting a knife as a kid everytime we went on holiday
