I am a knife guy...

I should mention that The Boy has the same genetic condition. He loves knives! He really gets worked up over some of the hi-res photos you guys post here on the forums.

Amazingly, at age 2, he's even showing a preference to a particular style of knife and knife feature - if the knife doesn't have a BOLSTER, he's not interested. :D

The knife constitutes the oldest and most elemental art form.
People were making knives before they were drawing on cave walls.
It is the father of the axe and the spear, and the predecessor of all technology.
The club may have preceded the knife as a tool, but its usefulness has long since waned while the knife has lost none of its thunder.
Like the shark, it has endured for countless eons without the slightest need for change.
Its form, its very idea has had a greater impact on history than any philosophy, or any number of bullets.
It is one of mankind's oldest tools, oldest weapons, and oldest friends.
And it isn't going anywhere.

My little ode to knives :)

For me its genetic! many members of my family worship knives, blades and weapons....my father, grand father, grand father father, cousin, brother.

I think it is something primal, programmed into dna. The knife is our most simple basic tool, according to history it was our first tool as man, it is still around today after all of this time, is still useful and is still the only single tool that can sustain man. By that I mean there is no other tool that with that one tool alone and nothing else can man survive, a knife is that tool. It also the only tool that cannot or probably not be removed from a survival situation with the person still being able to survive for any prolonged period of time. That is substantial. I've read a good article about this very topic in one of the knife mags, before, which one escpaes me, but it was a good article and said much of what I have repeated here. The only other thing that stirs that spot in my soul like a knife is when for the first time I touch the antler of a buck I've just shot, both of those things stir the same deep seated emotions within me, so for me its got to be something primal.

I love this part....just awesome....

Paraphrased: "The knife is the father of the axe and spear....It is the predecessor of all technology."

My Girl rolls her eyes at me whenever I leave the house with more than 1 knife on me.

Sharpening a knife, it's cheaper than therapy.

The love of the blade?. . . Crazy isn't it?. . . .

It seems innate, something that harkens back to the caveman's love of his first tool, his first weapon. It is, perhaps, some rogue DNA strain that has refused to die or be supplanted by the love of window treatments and musical theatre. . .

I'm certain that we will never really know, but I thank the heavens everyday that I have it. . . . I think that makes me part caveman!!!

Let's drink!!!

Jerry :D

The need for a good knife will never disappear. What a bonus (and joy) to be able to love what we need! :D

Hoisting one to you now, Jerry!
