I have a cave diving photo I thought I'd use as an avatar. I believe an avatar is the picture that appears by your name when you post.

I have it down to 22X42 pixels with a resolution of 45 and it is still larger than the size allowed of 9.8.

Now, I'm about as frustrated as I'd care to be over this. I think it is already too small to distinguish what it is.

Any suggestions?

Steve,

Can you post the picture in the thread? Someone should be able to figure out what the glitch is.

the issue is in the compression you are using on the image. If you post it in this thread, I (or probably somebody else) can shrink down the filesize without shrinking down the pixels excessively.

Sure. Here it is. I like this one. It was taken of me coming out of a small tunnel under the Yucatan Jungle with both tanks dismounted because the tunnel was so small. The pic is already very small.

will this do? or would you need it zoomed in more?

Steve, your going platinum has driven me to re-up my membership to "DoubleDog Platinum."

Expensive, but the exclusivity is worth it.

Congrats, and I'll help with your icon if you're still having probs later.

Sorry about the delay, I'm actually typing up an essay tonight and poking at the forum as a break every now and then. Here are three quickies - I see Finkenstein decided to be fancy and buttonized it for you. :p Anyway, whatever floats your boat!

"DoubleDog Platinum?" Is this Platinum with a changed title?

It's just a goof, Bill. You can change the membership name in platinium. I used to have "Aluminum Member" or "Nickle Silver Member" but you can put in anything... "Bozo Bus Driver" or "Owns Too Many" are a couple other ideas...

I would like to use one of the wider pictures you generous forumites modified for me. How do I get it pasted as my avatar?

How did you guys reduce it's size and maintain being able to see what it is?

Going platinum just kinda happened. I was having such a good time with the knife contest I wanted to post pictures of the knives. Since I didn't quite understand what levels could post pictures, I just got the platinum one. I've got to say the $50.00 per year was worth it to me. I have posted a number of pictures since which also allows me to share my projects and get my questions answered better. But most of all it has allowed me to enjoy this forum more and make some valued friends with interests like mine. That is something I can't put a price on.

You guys have tried hard to help me. I downloaded a few pictures to my My Photographs and then went and edited my avatar. Althought the selected picture was within size limits, it was rejected.

Any suggestions?

I used edit my avatar. Is there a different option I should use?

Oh, I didn't do it. I was just commenting on the fact that you got it done.
Congrats

Steve

Oh, isn't cave diving about the most dangerous thing you can do? Except maybe sassin' Momma?
Cool

Steve.
Cool

There are some things that either take a helluva lot of guts or no dayumed sense. I know there are a few guys here that dive in those dayumed caves and I still haven't made up my mind as to what category they fall into. :p :o ;)
I just recently discovered that my old phobia has popped up again and the claustra side of my phobia is bothering me once again.
I got over it for years by just dealing with it and overcoming my fear but I don't know if I could manage that today.
But then there was once upon a time that I could crawl through an opening made by removing a single concrete block way back when I weighed 155 pounds.
It was a little rough getting my shoulders through but by doing so it saved me several hours of work on a termite job that should've never been sold to begin with.
There is just *Absolutely No Way* I could swim through an opening that small.
I would panic and suck all the air out of the bottle in one big gulp I'm afraid.:o

Steve at least it can be made out as to what your avatar is and especially with you telling us to begin with.;)
One thing about it is that your avatar will be a good conversation starter.
