Hey Everybody........

Sorry to have been gone so long........I hope everybody had a GREAT Feast and a lot of good family time..........

As I mentioned to the Moose earlier, I have been dreading posting about this BUUUUUUT, I gotta........It all started when I went to South Dakota for the annual pheasant murdering festival the week before thanksgiving......We were hunting for only two and a half days starting saturday which dawned with a lovely six degree temperature and a bit of a breeze.....The birds were NOT stupid (the dumb ones this late in the season are all in the freezer or have passed through a roasting pan) and the wily remainders really wanted to sleep in......what they were napping in was "heavy cover" a euphemism for tangled up stuff which is real hard to navigate easily, especially for out of shape old fat guys.........I drank very little water..........Sunday was a balmy twenty four degrees and we really worked at making limit and almost made it,,,,,I drank very little water but again worked my old ass off........monday was a half day and was spent on the run to bag as many birds as possible before climbing in the truck for the sixteen hour drive back......I drank little water (drinky water...make more stops) thanksgiving coming up and everybody was anxious to get home.....Got outta the truck and I KNEW I was in trouble.......I could hardly move and was making a fair imitation of a hundred year old stroke victim .......Dehydration and lactic acid build up in muscles unused and forgotten for many a moon!!!!!!!!!!........

Those who have known me for any length of time know i incessantly lecture others about drinking enough water("if you ain't pissin' you ain't drinking enough" etc.) SOOOOO i got to spend the weekend laying about in a freaking daze drinking lots of fluids and taking potassium and magnesium pills, eating salty food and drinking a lot of water........

Why would a person not MUCH crazier than the other denizens of these parts let this happen......Other than the obvious cries I hear of STUPID, do I hear a resounding chorus of STUUUUUPID!!!!?????......When I lived in ohio I would have probably done enough of the right thing .....Never let this happen in almost twenty years of deer and grouse hunting in Northern Ontario where weather conditions were frequently worse, so WTF, over........

I did NOT prioritize.......Water IS on the priority list......Number three after oxygen and warmth if memory serves and pheasant ain't on it at all......Keep your eyes and lips on the water bottle....The alternative SUCKS........

All Best....

I hope you're ok.
I went through that a couple of years ago and it was one of the scariest things I've ever dealt with. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I couldn't sleep but I couldn't stay awake either. I was more confused than usual. I was sicker than a dog.
When I realized that I hadn't peed in over a day and I hadn't had a drink in longer than that I finally understood. It took a long time to get back to normal.

Where I work at is very safety oriented and the topic of dehydration comes up in the summer but you should always check the color of your piss to see how your
hydration is know matter the season are temp glade you are ok.

Growing up in Scouts, our scoutmaster always was telling us, "If your pee is not clear you need to drink more water". I've also noticed that pee smells much worse the darker it gets. Working outdoors I just about can't keep my urine clear during the summer, just can't drink enough. Then winter weather doesn't cause alot of sweating, so I once again usually don't drink enough water. But good advise Ethan, Water will keep you healthy and make you feel very good when properly hydrated.

Ethan, glad you are ok..... Ever since my kidney stone adventure last month.....I am the king of hydration..... Water is our friend..... Believe you me.... Lol

I've been there and it Bites, I was so dehydrated, The hospital had to re-hydrate me with a bag and needle, My whole body hurt for the first two bags.
Glad you made it through!!

hey, uh Ethan?

do you not have like, oh, 400 water bottles? yeah? hahahahhahahahahah :)

okay, well, you learned your lesson :> this time.

congrats on the bird murdering. poor tasty things :D

Sir, glad your ok.
Take care of yourself, I'm just get g to know Becker knives, ( waiting on my first) , can't lose you now,:):)

Probably would not have hurt to get an IV - they can dump 1.5L into you in very little time.

Ditto above, I've had a kidney stone - once you have one, you'll drink plenty.

After reading this memories of my Navy drill instructors telling us to down a canteen, then beating our faces into the tile floors just before chow. Oh, how I love water. Glad you're back in the fight, sir.
