I'm pretty close to throwing up. I've never had one single issue with USPS, UPS or Fedex losing anything of mine. It has now come and bit me on the ass. The one package that gets lost is my Strider SNG. I have had that knife for 3 years and now it's gone.

I was sending it in to the guys at Strider for some work and it went out on June 25th and Strider just called me to tell me that they never recieved it. I checked online and all the tracking and confirmation says is that it was "accepted" at the post office and nothing more.

I got insurance for the value of the knife but I kind of have the feeling that I'm gonna have to jump through about 50 hoops to get my money back.

Anyone have this happen before? Tell me theres a happy ending?

never happened to me before and I used USPS for all my knife shipping to Spyderco and Benchmade. Good luck on your insurance

I had a package ( a knife too ) accidentally routed to the wrong post office , it eventually turned up a week later. But I do remember the web site tracking saying it was mis-routed.

Also "accepted " at the local post office doesn't mean it was sent out with a carrier. That could take a few days ( my carrier told me that).

Sent a Moyo Custom from B'ham to Atlanta,,never showed up,,same thing on the "tracking". Yes,,expect some hoop jumping on the insurance.
Good luck and sorry for the loss.

Phillip :)

Only 10 days, it may just be slow.

I imagine you'll have to wait a month before you can file a claim. You'll need some kinda proof it was worth what you said, original sales receipt, letter from Strider, something.

After you file a claim, about a month later you'll get a check.

I have seen things mysteriously show up later.
I have filed a claim and never heard boo.

Sorry to hear of this. Best of luck.

One thing I have learned is that when using click-n-ship, 99% of the time there is no outbound scan unless you ask for it. When I do use click-n-ship, I make the letter carrier scan it into the system or else it only shows when it was delivered.

When a package goes through a processing facility after being accepted there's TONS of places it can get lost....least of all one of the many pieces of equipment/containers used to transport the mail that might sit for a while before anyone even looks at it to use it again. There's a good chance it's just been lost somewhere. That happened to me before and I was paid the insurance after 3 weeks then recieved the package 9 weeks after that :p.

The only other thing that REALLY could have happened is if your package was destroyed/torn by being crushed or gouged by one of the machines and the contents were separated from the package. If that was the case, they may be separated with no way of telling where the knife came from.

When shipping, it's a good idea to put the address and contact info on the item being shipped just in case it's ever separated from the package. This way no matter what happens it gets delivered.

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. I know how you feel.

About a year ago I had a Spyderco Police stolen by the USPS. They actually cut the package open and took the knife, then delivered the empty package. I didn't bother to get insurance so I was stuck. From then on, I only use FedEx. They are easier to track online and have better insurance.

The only other thing that REALLY could have happened...
I have a third explanation: Some postal worker has a new knife.

Glad you bought the insurance! Better safe than sorry, and all that.

Just wondering is it a discontinued model, or can you buy another one just like it once you get the claim check?

I sent a package and it got "lost" also. After 3 weeks of no package I finally got in touch with someone at the post office on the receiving end and they started to look for it. The package showed up at it's destination about 3 days later. Don't give up hope! Do ship with a service that will tell you where the package is from now on.

Good Luck!

I have a question.

The knife in question was an SNG Gen-4 I think. Heres the problem. Someone mentioned that the claims will want a reciept included and I don't have one. My original SNG was a Gen-2 serial number 70 that I got from "2the hilt." After a year of use I sent it to Josh at Strider for a sharpening and to fix some blade play. Josh called me and told me that he didn't like the blade play and were going to just give me a new knife, which is the one I've had since and is now gone.

Do I contact Strider to get a reciept?

Anyone think I should wait any longer or should I go and file a claim now?

Although I have never lost a knife to USPS, I have heard of people who have and they had a tough time getting their money, which really makes no sense as that is why you pay for insurance. But it is very difficult to proove.

In any case, when I send something out that is very valuable and hard to replace, I take pics of it as I wrap it up and put it in the box, and then I take pics of the box. This may or may not help, but it is physical proof that you did send the item in question. I may start filming myself wrap expensive knives into the box, all the way to sealing the box. this may be oerkill, but I don't care.

Take whatever shipping documents you have to your local post office, they can access tracking records that you can not see on line. Good luck, I have had it happen and it sure is tramatic. No P O'ed is the correct term.

A lot of good responses. I would say there is still about a 40% chance it will show up one of these days. Having insurance generally wards off carriers from stealing them, from my experience. But I have had them show up 60 days later.

Don't expect the post office to give you any additional information. Just get your value proof ready and they will let you file the claim in 30 days.

Possibly all is not lost.

Online tracking of USPS is pretty unreliable. I once had a 4-day priority USPS package take 2 weeks to reach me. It took several days to reach "my post office", then a few more days to make the last 1 1/2 miles to me.

Wait a few more days and hope for the best.

I sent a knife I sold priority mail it never got there, I had a second one and sent that to the buyer he got that one and at least he was taken care of though it was not the same color handle. I never got a responce from the post office other than I had tracking and they said it was delivered...I know the buyer well enough to believe he did not get it.

I still use USPS but I've had my share of bad experiences with them. I received a package only 9 months late. Imagine that! Looks like that one went to the moon and back.
