I am creating a woods survival/bushcraft combo

I found this thread looking into what other people thought of the sven saw. I grew up using one of these on many overnight hiking and canoeing trips in the Adirondacks and Catskills. Tried swindling my dad out of his which he has had since presumably the early/mid seventies but his curt answer was "No, that's mine." Understandable. Now I have no problem buying a new saw but I really like his olive green handled one. All I'm seeing these days are the reddish ones, oh well. Oh yeah, if you do go this route I'd recommending painting the wing nut a bright color as the saw is useless without it and for assembly/disassembly you have to take it completely off.

You mention bushcraft AND "survival". With that being the case, I would suggest exploring an alternative with roots far into the past. An inexpensive scandi grind pure bushcraft knife like a Mora ($20 median price), a folding saw like a Bahco or similar ($40), and an inexpensive large bladed wood processing knife (Condor Kumunga, etc.) or a small forest axe ($40)...you would cover all the real basics needed for both bushcraft and "survival". Sorry about the SAK not making it into the mix. If you buy sparkling wine with a screwtop instead of champagne, you wont miss the corkscrew. :p
