I Am Finished Until SATIN INFI

I agree wholeheartedly. I'd love an uncoated option, whether it's BIG or Comp, I just meant that if there's a blade I want that most likely won't be offered in uncoated (Battle Saw), then a little bit of work won't stop me from purchasing it.

Removing coatings is a huge pita. It takes a lot of elbow grease to get it looking decent. I will do it for some not all

Weren't most / all of the releases Battle Grade? They've been SR101 for the most part too, so it's likely they're just trying to keep costs down for the consumer so as many people can buy them as possible. Satin blades would bring the cost up and work against this principle. I think there's more to it than simply not coating the blade, they have to take decarb off and sand down any big flaws as well.

That said I would be all for a satin or DC version of something, it really improves performance of the knife I've found, the coating just has too much resistance when cutting.

Keeping costs down is what got me, hence my "Nothing But Satin" posturing.

I bought my first Busse knife (SYKCO TRASH-1) off the Exchange (EE) in November. Instantly fell in love. Then I discovered the "Operation F Your Wallet" and now have six more bastards en route (Team Gemini M, Steel Heart Ergo, Second Generation Badger Attack Ergo [2x], D-Guard Battle Mistress) and, now after logging in to the Busse website, I see that I only have five on order.

Uh, oh. I guess I gotta order another one so I don't look like a liar.

Besides, I already got used to the idea of having six in the hole. Five doesn't sit right.

Yeah, but when there is no need to. All they have to do is skip the coating process and I would be happy. Hell, it saves them money.

I wouldn't mind paying the same price for an uncoated offering either. I have a feeling I'll be stripping all of my new INFI as they come in anyway.

Or at least just coat them with the water base paint from home depot, then I could wash it off.

Meh, I have always preferred mine coated, each and every time... which means I have been hurting with Operation 2 weeks... :D :D

They ought to make Competition finish and sell it to you if you are a forum member with over 1,000 posts. If you have that many then you probably aren't one of the goof balls who buys competition finish then sends it back.

Jerry we could be sworn to secrecy, have a special code word or something to call and give Lexi.... If you sent me something with rust on it I'd thank you because that means it wasn't coated. I accept the rust, scratches, INFI dimples and all machine marks to not have to play in citristrip every now and then.

I totally agree with everybody's preference for a satin finish, however be willing to shell out an additional $200 bucks for say the Battle Saw, since the ASHBM in Satin retailed for $697 with Canvas, I would suspect the Battle Saw would be roughly the same cost, in other words roughly $800 for a G10 handle upgrade-This takes a whole bunch of people out of the Market-Coating is nothing more than a smart Marketing and Business move for Busse-lower prices mean more knives sold-Busse had the ASHBM-LE on the site for I think over 4 years or so-Sold less than 1,000 LE Models I believe-Do the Math-I'm just sayin

I got hip to Busse in July and ordered an R6 to check it out before I Ordered a LE shbm and a tglb. Got the r6 in the mail and loved it, so I went to order the le shbm and tglb and they were gone! Oh the pain!
Then Operation 2 weeks started...and here I am 11 blades deep. So yeah I would have to say Jerry's marketing plan worked.

I have a bad feeling Jerry is going to finally slay our wallets with Satin/B.I.G. INFI offerings in 2016... :grumpy:

Be afraid... VERY AFRAID!!!! :p

Tell you what guys, I'll strip/remove decarb on your infi for $100 per blade under 7", $150 over ;)

When you consider the amount of work to do it right with NO POWER TOOLS, that is reasonable. I took that SHBM below from coated to satin finished with 320 grit hand sanding. Total amount of time to get it there was probably 8 hours and cost in materials was probably $25(Jasco and sand paper).

Yes, you certainly are finished until satin infi... coated finished. :p
chicken nugget stabber... :D

It will take a very special coated blade for me to pull the trigger these days. Otherwise, I will wait until they offer them uncoated, satin or double cut.

I understand that people were sending competition finish(uncoated raw blades) to have them properly satinized under warranty repair kinda thing which ruined it for the rest of us. I think Busse could engrave the words "RAWFIN" on the spine above the handle for Raw Finish. Any blade with that could only be upgraded at cost by custom shop.
