Aw, thanks Jake! That's awesome. I'll keep it a good user. :thumbup: This was a really cool thread, it was great getting to see everyone's favorite memories and stories.
 
I'm not sure if I count as a W&SS poster or not, but I'll put an entry in anyway.
So, I went on an Outward Bound in the Boundary Waters. 2 weeks, canoeing/portagin/climbing. I do have two funny stories that stand out.
We practiced the "pack, paddle, and pray" method of bear safety. We would take all of our food packs and strap them to a tree, with a rope. We would then insert our paddles, upright, into the rope and put the pots on top. That way, we would at least know there was a bear.
Well, one night, a tent-mate of mine realizes he is thirsty, and that he has left his water bottle outside. He gets up and goes out to get it. Shortly thereafter we here "ahh!" followed by a series of thwacks. The other tent-mate and I look at eachother, and stay in the tent until the guy comes up and says "I killed a snake." We walk out, and, sure enough, there is the six inch little rat snake (or the like) lying there. He had literally decapitated it with a canoe paddle.
The other funny story involves us getting lost. We had been trying to get to a lake through a series of shortcuts, swamps, and mile-long portages, when when finally got to a resort which we were sure would take us to the lake. So, we load up and begin traipsing through. Same guy who offed the snake talks to a nice old lady, who says we can use it as a cut-through. Then, a crotchety old dude pulls up on an ATV, and begins to yell at us. "Outward Bound!" he sneered " F******Outward Bound knows not to come on my d*** land. I've been telling them that for twenty years. Their d*** kids come up here and use GDed foul language."
Our leader was wise enough to keep the bipolar/ADD guy shut up and peacefully ask the guy again, without pointing out the obvious hypocrisy. We finally managed to get through. Thankfully, the lake was a few rods away, and we were finally able to get to our campsite for a well deserved night's rest.
