I have a question for you guys??? I am looking to get a new knife. I need something that is easy to carry and can be worn on the hip. I have been using one of those Klein Tools brand knife but it can't hold a sharp on it worth nothing.

I am currently using a Gerber multi tool/knife but the blade on it has not been that great.

I have been looking at a Kershaw Shuffle 2 but the only thing I don't like about it that I don't have anyway to attach it to my belt.

Like I said I need something I can attach to my belt that is inexpensive but will be great for cutting small to thick wires. I have been out of the loop of what's out there for sometime and I have a few Case knifes but they are more fancy looking and not as rugged in what I am looking for. I do like the tactical side of the knife's that our out they seam to hold a sharp on them very well and also seam to hold up with ruggedness. What are your guys thoughts on this and what do you recommend?

Honestly I like the kershaw shuffle so much I got my wife the pink one. It has an awesome finger choil and it's a really comfortable small Edc that you wouldn't be worried if lost

What about a sheath for it? I need something I can carry on my hip.

Do the make a sheath for it to hold it to your hip?

I don't think there's a sheath for that specific knife but doubt it would be hard to find a small sheath that would fit, or maybe even the shuffle and a lighter or something else small

What is the size of it folded up? Which version is better the first gen or second gen?

How are the wire cutters on it?

I suoopse one could get a decent multitool, like a Leatherman. Wire cutters and a decent blade.

Me, I'd get wire cutters and a nice knife...and not cut wires with the knife. Or drive nails.

If you want a knife to go on your side get a buck 110, there an excellent classic American knife that comes with an excellent piece of leather to keep it in. ( FYI the Gerber suspension is just a cheapo imported multitool , and you have to get one of their American made models or a leatherman if you want a good multitool )
Most modern folders come with pocket clips and not sheaths.

This... a small pair of dykes for cutting wire, maybe even a cheaper side leatherman if you must have a multitool, (I have 2 wingman's for just that purpose), and nicer knife for knife specific tasks... ie not wires or nail or prying etc.

I am looking for a knife not a multi tool. So I just want something that can hold a sharp on the blade and is good and fits on the hip.

The Shuffle has a clip. If you don't want to use the clip, take the clip off and buy a separate sheath for the knife. Buck, Case, Victorinox, Leatherman all sell sheaths separately. Just measure the knife and order a belt sheath that it will fit into.

Knives are not "great for cutting small to thick wires."

Wire cutters are.

And, just to make sure we are all on the same page....what do mean about "wearing on the hip"? Are you talking a folding knife that comes with a sheath? As opposed to a knife that clip on to the inside of your pocket?

Really you can find a sheath for about ANY folding knife.

I am looking for something that ether comes with a nylon sheath or has a built in clip on it. I have wire cutters but I would like to get something that has a good knife on it. Like I said I was using a Klein tool knife but the blare was a cheap blade that could not hold a sharp.

The Kershaw Shuffle has a clip.

Like hickory n steel said
Get a buck 110 knife since it comes with a sheath.
I use a leatherman surge and I beat it up daily (plumber).
Just for your information leatherman warranty is outstanding. I have had my surge for 10 years. Broke the blade, bent some attachments doing plumbing. A year a go I sent it in to leatherman with no receipt for repairs. Two weeks later I get q box in the mail with a letter that said:
Your leatherman was so beat up we couldn't fix it, so here's a new one.
They had sent me the new version of the surge , no questions asked and it didn't cost me a penny.

Just my personal experience

A good knife is less likely to be able to cut wire than a cheap one. And if I wanted to cut wire with a knife blade, I would use a cheap one. Why would you want to screw up a good blade.

Cheap, soft steel will probably chip less on wire and will be easier to sharpen after you do mess it up cutting wire.

And there are thousands of knives with a clip.

Again, get a good knife, like a Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Griptilian. Then dont ruin it by cutting wire with it.

Good sir, not hold an edge is what I think you're trying to say.

A good leatherman meets all your criteria and has replaceable wire cutters, as well as some very nice sheaths available for them.

If you insist on using a knife for cutting wire, I suggest you wear gloves and use a cheap knife you don't care about.

I'd wager most folding knives come with a pocket clip.

The wires I am talking about are speaker wires and such. I am the AV tech for the local school district here so I work with small to thick cable for Ethernet to speaker wires and I like a good blade for that not wire utters.

With the Shuffle, if you don't want to use the pocket clip you have three options:
Hook the carbiner to a belt loop on your pants.
Have someone here make a pouch
Go to a retailer (WalMart, Target, etc) and look at their selection of pouches for phones, cameras, etc
