I am Joining the Emerson Ranks

Brethren... My Mini CQC7A came in the mail today. I have not had a chance to play with it yet... I am planning on disassembling, cleaning, re-assembling, and touching up the edge.

I will post my findings a bit later on...

My, my...Aren't we the sadist? Why must we wait!? Film the whole damn thing and broadcast it live...For the love of all things holy man you're torturing us for no good reason. At least show us the box! Or the mailox it was delvered in, dam...I mean that I...I must...get hold of myself......

CQC 7A you say, huh? I might check back on this thread. I don't know. I might be busy. Pictures later you say, huh? No big deal. Alright. It's not like I'm waiting or anything. I gotta go do some things that need done.

Disassembly is complete and cleaning is in progress... I am using Benchmade's Blue cleanser and boy did this thing need a serious bath!

I found it interesting that the pocket clip had to come off in order to get one of the standoff screws out.

Question: I have (4) washers in this thing--is that normal?

they must have been replaced because emerson knives do not come with copper washers and only have 2. that said the washers they do use, nylatron are kinda thick so maybe the original owner doubled up? dunno. Emerson's are great, and easy to assemble/disassemble and fix. The nylatron washers dont need any lubricant but I have used CRK grease on occasion and it works really well. may not be necessary but i have seen the benefits. enjoy the blade.

Exactly. To each is own I guess. 2 washers on each side really doesn't make sense to me.

Ready for Edge Pro:

Remind me to NOT try and do an edge reprofile on a chisel grind edge! Even after going from 120 to 6K the edge is still a bit skiwampus! It looks ok though!

Looks can be deceiving as it still ain't very sharp... I had one heckuva time trying to match up the bevels, but the chisel grind is still prevalent and I didn't have much luck! I will beat on it a bit and try another edge re-profile in a month or two. I may send it off to one of the BF pros if I can't get it!

Chillin with my small 21 Insingo (love that knife!!)

And THAT's my join-up story....

Very nice work MMAR. I love the orderly and methodical approach you took to squaring that piece away. It turned out beautiful and looks like you had a lot of fun doing it. Congrats on that purchase, you have a keeper for sure.

I'm sure you can pick up the original nylatron washers anytime you may need them. It looked to me like the old owner may have swapped them out. If you get a chance and if you have calipers, check the distance between the liners.

I know the Commanders have .185 at the pivot between the liners. There are two .30 nylatron washers + .125 on the blade which makes the .185. I'm guessing that those washers you have in your knife are .15 a piece. I'm just curious is all so no big deal if you can't get measurements.

Again, great job!

Doesn't Emerson knives come with self lubricating pivots? I'm sure lubing it can't hurt, but just wondering.

Great cleanup pics ;) The way I like them :D

Probably the previous owner wanted to put bronze washers, and since they were thinner than the original Nylatron, he had to use two per side.

Congrats, Emerson knives are some of the toughest.

Two of my favorite EDC knives were my 1998 Commander and an old Specwar. The Specwar is now gone, it was the very first knife I bought through BFC and served me well. I imagine it is still alive somewhere!!
