This movie looks like it will be pretty good, and of interest to some of us here with the "post apocalyptic" survival scenerio. I can't tell if it's a retelling of Omega Man, or maybe a copy of it, but definitely looks similar. Still looks good though.

Omega Man was an adaptation of a book called "I am legend" by Richard Matheson. There is also a great adaptation of the book in graphic novel format. This movis is another adaptation of the 1950's book.

It's the 3rd movie adaption.

The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price
The Omega Man with Charlton Heston
I Am Legend with Will Smith

I thought his name sounded familiar, now I see. I liked the Heston movie, and I read the book. But I'll still see this one.

The Vincent Price version is underrated and well worth watching on DVD (it was just released last year). I think it's at a disadvantage because a lot of the tropes and techniques used in that flick were later "adapted" by George Romero and other horror movie makers ("Last Man," and the Matheson novel, predate "Night of the Living Dead" by about 15 years).

If you watch "Last Man," you'll see foreshadowing of elements later seen in everything from the Romero "Dead" films to the "28 Days/Weeks" films to Stephen King's "The Stand" to any number of "aftermath of world-wide virus" stories.*

However, I will acknowledge that "Last Man" was made on the cheap - the production value is high but it was filmed in Rome with Italian actors whose voices were later dubbed by Americans, making for a rather odd viewing experience. Luckily, Price's character is alone most of the time.

*I don't think Matheson invented this genre but the novel was a big hit in its day and he certainly popularized the "virus aftermath" storyline.

I just finished reading the book l think ill check out the movie. Looks like the movie is a little different then the book.

I Am Legend (1954) and Earth Abides (1958) by George Stewart are 2 of my all time favorites in the "virus aftermath" (well put BTW) genre.

And you right, anything made since in that genre is hard to watch without noticing borrowed elements.

28 Days later, might as well have credited Richard Matheson! :D

saw the previews saturday while at the movies seeing Beowulf. it looks like a good movie, Will Smith is a good actor!

Zombies! This is precisely the reason I must procure more knives, tomahawks and bullets.

it looks like a great movie.... i haven't read the books yet, but i wouldn't mind checking it out....

I haven't seen Beowulf yet, but I definitly want to see I am legend. It almost reminds me of resident evil in some ways.

I will definitely not only see this in the theater, but I'm sure it will be added to the zed-word film collection. One of my favorites is a lot like this and some of the books people mentioned, Night of the Comet.

I saw the Heston movie long before I actually read the book. And what made the book so memorable was the "I am legend" part, where the human became a monster of lore to the mutants, just like vampires and werewolves were myth and lore to the humans (which in turn begged the question "were they real too?"). Anyway, that's what I liked most about the book, not the survival aspect of it.

And yes, Will Smith movie looks promising. I just can't help but wonder if they'll stick closely to the book or veer off and lose all that backstory. Just finished reading "Point of Impact" after watching "Shooter", and the book is just so much better.

And I too like the postapocalyphic movies, but what I always dislike the most is how it usually ends up being "hey, I'm the last man on earth, everything is mine!", with supermarkets full of food (and no horrible stench from meat/fish department), which was so nicely shown in "28 Days Later".

A book I read quite a few times when I was a youth , I am Legend.

Seen both films , honestly did not think much of either one.
I like Mr. Heston for what he is but IMO that film was sorta silly. The vampires looked too 'disco 70's'.

Anyways , the previews of this look pretty good , with the special effects they can do nowadays , those at least should be worth seeing once.

About the 28 Days Later should pay homage to Matheson , should every knife maker that makes a clip point pay homage to the first person who made a clip point ? Whoever that might be. :D See what I'm saying.

Also of note is finally they are releasing a film I have been wanting to see adapted from the short story since reading it many times in my younger days.
