I am looking for a Becker Tac-tool or similar......

Holy crap. Gonna buy 5 BK3s, 2 for the car (when I get one), 1 for the B.O.B. (when I get a final one put together), and 2 for spares.

Can I assume that my BK2 is capable of this as well? I assume it won't work for the Nader lock.

A bk9 accomplish demolishing the car? I dont know about that........ .188" vs .25" and clip point vs chisel. prying the door open would damage the tip on the bk9 at a minimum id think.

Clip is a blade geometry, chisel is a type of grind. But your point is made.

You would destroy a 9 doing this, more so than the 3 because of the thickness and leverage your putting on it. With a 7" blade at 1/4" thick it took 2 people shoving on it against a Nader lock on a car door to break at the weakest point. Do you think it will take 300 - 500 lbs to break a 9" long .188" (quite a bit smaller than 1/4") thick blade at it's weakest point?

Lol, i actually paused when typing it and thought about that statment. i couldnt figure a better way to state it though. the 9 is pointy and the 3 is flat, just sounded alot worse to me :)

Whats the blade geometry on the bk3? anything that has a chisel type grind i normally say its a chisel blade, like id say a bk2 has a drop point blade. id say the bk3 has a chisel blade, so whats right? Im all about learning.......

Blade geometry/profile: LMGTFY

Types of grinds: LMGTFY

I used wiki to learn about those topics.

But basically I have zero idea what type of blade profile the 3 has. It's got a chisel grind, which means ground on one side as opposed to both sides like most knives. The 9 has a clip point profile with a regular saber grind (some of the blade toward the spine is left unground).

Yea i googled blade types and grinds awhile back, and the spyderco magazine has alot of good info on the subject too. But neither of us can accurately describe the profile of the 3.

I made my point in as few words as possible in a way everyone could understand, you called my statement out, i was ok with that but this LMGTFY always seems like a rude answer to anything, especially when you dont have the correct answer yourself. thanks im moving on-

Sorry, that was just a tool that I just when I don't want to sift through google or bing. I did not mean to be rude, I understand I did not have the correct answer, but I figured you might be able to find it.

Again, I'm very sorry about that. Can we move past it?

Yea man of course no worries, im sure i just took it wrong, i apologise as well. its past my bedtime :)

The BK-3 is a great knife but those using it for camping and stuff would probably be a little wary of the chisel grind. I know this because that was my first reaction when I got it. Nevertheless I still have it today, and it sits in my car. I think it works great! Definitely a stout and sturdy knife. The chisel grind makes this knife much stronger than any knife in the becker line. And yes I really mean this.

If you go by what the Becker Database says, WW is actually correct/accurate. It defines the 3 as Chisel shape with a flat grind and the 9 as Clip Point shape with a saber grind. (not my opion, just what it states) To me the 3 looks like a tanto or modified tanto (my opinion)

I don't know if you've seen this before, or not..............

IMO,the 3 is a more useful knife than the 2. Of course, I know that's not the consensus around here.

Doc
