I recently commissioned a knife maker to produce a prototype of my design, including a CAD drawing so I could have the prototype produced. I am very happy with the prototype and ready to produce a run of 20 knives. The knife is a very small gents tactical linerlock with an inset single liner. (i.e. it is milled into the handle)
I am planning to have a metal shop, such as Halpern Titanium, do the following:
Waterjet the blade, liner, and handles. Also, I may have the handle with the liner cnc milled so the knifemaker I work with does not need to complete that part. (open to suggestions)
I would like to contract with a custom knifemaker to:
Grind and heat treat the blades, contour the edges of the handle, fit and finish the knives.
My goal is to have the less value-added operations done by a metal shop so that I can pay to have a proficient knifemaker concentrate on bring ingthe finished pieces to life.
Please contact me if you are interested. I am looking to work with someone who takes pride in their work and is good at making folders. I am particular about a few things the blade needs to be dead center, the detent has to be well done, and the lock-up has to be perfect.
If you are a knifemaker interested in augmenting your income with this project, please let me know. I am a Gold Member of Bladeforums. I hope this posting doesnt violate any rules of the forum. This seemed like the most logical place to post this request. Thank you and best regards, John
