I was looking for the newbie section but I've been a member here for so long I can't remember if we even have one. I am currently in the Rock and Roll capital of the World, Cleveland Ohio but I am moving to Redding California. I remember seeing someone else lived in Redding so I was thinking I may be able to meet up with him when I get there. If you live near Redding, hit me up.

Don't live near Redding, but welcome to the land of fruits and nuts!.... :D

I lived most of my life in the PRK. I move to AZ as soon as I could.

The Redding area isn't too bad though.

That sounds like quite a change. Congratulations!

I don't live in Redding, but I travel through there fairly often. I live about 100 miles east of Redding near the Nevada border. Redding can get HOT in the summer. But I'm sure the heat feels nothing like the heat in Ohio. Redding is a dry heat. The Sacramento River will provide you with some relief. Also Salmon and Shad fishing. If you travel north on I-5 it is not far at all until you climb into higher elevations. Mt. Shasta is one of the most beautiful mountains you will ever see. If you travel west (not east) on 299, the Trinity River is a fantastic area. And the Pacific ocean is 150 miles away or so. The coast from McKinleyville north can be very nice. The giant redwoods are over there too. I think you will like it. If California were divided into two states the northern state would be fantastic. Unfortunately the voters in the big cities control California. The north state, which can be very rural, is kind of the bastard stepchild. But we make the best of it. Welcome to the north state!!!

Enjoy Redding! I'm several hours south on 5, but you will sure love it here! Long live the State of Jefferson!

Longun meant West on 299 to get to the Trinity River. I live on the coast near where 299 meets 101.

Don't listen to Uffda, he has heat frustration and sun damage from Zona. Move to Ventura County, but don't tell anybody about it. Stay out of LA county though. Redding, meh, I bet Nor Cal has alot to offer, but I got too much family in So Cal, but I much prefer Ventura Co. if I have to do it.

I was just in Redding a couple months ago because my better half has family there and the company I work for has property there. It gets insanely hot there during the summer months and for it's size there really isn't anything to do there. The first thing I noticed while being there is the stereotype you always hear about California drivers isn't a stereotype at all! They really are horrible drivers and are either driving super fast or slamming their brakes on all while never using their turn signals. It was a test a of my patience to say the least lol. It was a fairly clean city though. No offense to any of you Cali guys I'm just playing! Do you already have housing set for when you get there? If not then send me an email as the company I work for owns apartments in Cali, Oregon and Washington. What brings you to Redding exactly? If it isn't 100% locked in yet and your just wanting to come to the west coast then check out Eugene, OR. Much nicer city with a lot more to do and better weather although more rain. Better food, great local bands, people are more friendly it just has a lot more to offer. Oh and no sales tax in Oregon is always a plus lol. Either way good luck with the move!

I live in Chico which is just over an hour south of Redding. Redding is nice enough, but there really isn't that much to do there culturally. There are some really great wilderness areas, though, and it is three hours to the ocean. It does get hot in the summer.

Welcome to The Golden State!

I have never lived as far north as Redding, I am in Sacramento now but work in San Francisco. The state is very diverse, LA is very much it's own world as is SF, I love San Diego and the the Tahoe and Sierra regions. Never was too fond of Joshua Tree and Death Valley but many are. My wife has roots in Plumas County going back to the Gold Rush and we plan to be laid to rest there. There is a lot in this state to love, don't hesitate to get out there and look around!

Glad to see someone else from Chico Nixelplix, didn't think there was anyone else on this forum from here. As for Redding, it is okay, I have been through a few times to help out at one of our chain stores over there. Should be a rather different change of pace.

Nice to see you here too, Dr. Boom!

Yes, I meant West on Hwy 299. I will go back and correct my post. It would be a long drive to the ocean if you went east from Redding, ha, ha! Thanks De Plano.
