I am not CRITICIZING, merely ASKING...!

Well said, guys.

I have never used a knife in a fight and I very seriously doubt that I ever will. I carry "tactical" knives because they are convenient, effective, and durable. "Traditional" pocket knives utilize outmoded technology; there is no reason for a modern user to carry one. I regard my knife as a tool to such a large degree that, in the event of a fight, I might actually forget to draw my knife and use it as a weapon!

Having said that though, I feel confident that I could easily kill someone with a knife. The knife is simply the best weapon ever devised for extremely close quarters combat. People have been killing each other with small knives for literally millions of years. Saying that a knife cannot be used for self-defense is like saying that houses cannot be built of wood.

Now excuse me while I spit out my chew...

how many of yall tobacco chewing knife yielding rednecks think it is funny when some uneducated person makes the statement i'll shoot you if you pull a knife on me.first of all people like that have probally never shoot a gun, more less do they cary one.secondly at ten foot a man with a knife in his hand has a good chance at stopping someone that has to draw there gun before they can shoot.finally even a woman without knife training would command more respect from me than one with a gun and no training.

I carry a folder, and moreover a fixed blade, for self defense, because it is the most lethal weapon I can legally buy and carry, well at least the folder. It can be carried easily and discreet. Also my self defense training is more easily adaptable for a knife than a firearm. And I trust the quality of my knives to cut me a way out of a bad situation, if running is no longer an option. I have read the term "self extraction tool" on the forums a while ago, that is a good way to describe what my 'tactical folder' is to me. Besides, 'tactical' means more to me than just 'fighting', what about dealing with seatbelts and other stuff you can get entangled in?
Would I like to carry a firearm instead of a folder, yes. But not when I can't legally purchase and train for it.

"tactical" folders usually have one handed opening features and generally clip to a pocket or waistband,These features offer huge advantages for uses other than self defense. When you need a knife for something as simple as opening a package, the ability quickly access the appropriate tool makes life a little easier.
As for defense,I had a lot of people, including a veteran policeman, tell me that a knife scares them more than a gun.The above posts list several circumstances where the sight of the knife was enough to provide
deterrance.Of course,if you talk the talk, best be ready to walk the walk.I am a licensed CCW holder and always carry both a knife and a gun.I beleive that they compliment each other in a total defense stratagy and make me as ready as possible for any emergency situation, defensive or not.
The fact that that the knife I carry has been called tactical,is of little consequence.
I am proud to be a southern gentleman, not a redneck.Call me a well prepared moderate.

As I see it, one carries a "tactical knife" for the purpose of daily random knife tasks where a compact blade is needed, not because it's a strictly fighting knife, which it is of course not. If most of the folding knives today are called tactical, who cares as long as they cut what you put in front of them? Tactical is just a word. But if you are in a situation that calls for defense, isn't good that you are carrying that knife, even if defense wasn't it's original purpose? Of course I could be wrong.

Hello,

I wear a Baseball cap and I also chew
tobacco.

Chewing tobacco is a Great "back the person Up to access your Carry Knife" tool !!

Ever Get Tobacco spit in your EYES??

works great kind of like a low grade Capsium spray in the eyes, except with Fine cut chewing tobacco you also get the Grit in the Eye bonus along with the tremendous Sting of the Juice!!!!

bet nobody thought of that...lmfao it does work too..trust me on this.

in fact if you get wondering grab a can of just plain Copenhagen and take a pinch and
throw it in your eyes,,,,but to get the full effect it has to be spit!! Lmao

Have a pleasnt New year and keep a can of chew handy for the Insurgents!!!!! lmao

Take Care, and good chewing,

Allen, what a GREAT marketing idea! Tactical Tobacco: Makes the bad guys back down, and then kills them slowly and painfully.

In the age of AIDs and Hepatitus C,I think sticking a knife in a low life would have to be the absolute last resort. When I don't carry a firearm,I carry pepper spray for self defense, the object is to keep the scum away from you. With the spray there are fewer legal ramifications as well.

Chewing tobacco = tactical weapon. Finally a logical reason for the habit.

To return to the original post, the old "if you carry a weapon it's just going to get taken away and used against you" line is a ploy used by those who seek to criminalize self defense. It is far better to possess the tools of self defense than to have no options at all, damn it!

I'm also sick and tired of these posts that claim to be simple questions, yet indulge in either insulting stereotypes or, as I've already mentioned, utilize the same sheeple rhetoric as you'd see on countless Lefty websites.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

I doubt this forum would even exist, were it
not for the recent advent of the one-handed,
quality-made, "tactical" knife. I've owned
and used knives for utility purposes for over
40 yrs., but was never truly exited about a
knife untill the tactical folders came about.
They're just cool and fun to use. Although
I carried a Buck 110 daily for years, I never
sat in front of the TV and fondled it. Or
wondered what model of Buck or Case I was
going to buy next...knowing I certainly didn't need another knife.
