I am not sure how you four layer SAK guys do it

The biggest problem is getting a larger knife to stay vertical in your pocket, that way it's not nearly as annoying as one that is constantly sliding around. The least expensive way to do this is with a clip, like the ones sold by Vic or Wenger. I went all-out about 4 months ago and bought a Deryk Munroe Mega dangler out of Ti. The clip holds my 4 layer "Yeoman Mechanic", and a Fenix AAA LED light. Although pricey, I've been very happy with the decision. I haven't gone couch/chair/car diving in search of an SAK that fell out of my pocket since, and you can't really see it in my pants pocket.

Sold out for now, but here is the link:http://www.munroedesign.com/nowavailable.htm

The vic belt clip solves any issues there would be with size. I can attach my XLT to it, and the knife stays vertical and out of the way with plenty of room to access the entire front pocket. I think it boils down to personal preference. I'd rather have the tools I need all the time, than thin the herd so to speak and not have what I want when and if I absolutely need it. No tool is neccessary for every day life, but it sure is nice to have what you need when the time comes.

I also have the Victorinox belt clip, it works fine for me. It originally came with a chain, which I have replaced by a cord, which weighs less and I like a cord more than a chain.

So the fuel shut off solenoid decided to bind with the boot covering the spring yesterday and left me dead stranded 50 miles from home. I busted out my swisschamp XLT and with the pliers freed the mangled boot from the spring so the plunger could move. Problem solved and I was on my way home....That's why I like 4+ layer saks!! :D:thumbup:

Here is a shot of thickness comparison. Smallest is a Tinker. largets is a Champ Plus.

It goes Tinker. Super Tinker. Deluxe Tinker. Explorer. Champ Plus.

To me, the difference in size carrying is minimal. Now weight, that can make a difference. But to me any of these are no problem.

It comes down to this. I would rather have a tool I don't need, than not have it when I need it.

i carry bold a SAK and a MT to cover all bases. i could probably replace the MT with a good pair of pliers, but i know that would be the day i forgot my SAK.

also, quit yer bitchin, OP.

I have 50-ish saks, anything past 4 layers i usually relegate to sheath carry.
My most carried SAKs are the Compact, Huntsman, Farmer and Swisschamp.
(Oh yeah and my stayglow Classic, lol.)

I have a compact mod and an OHT mod in the planning stage.
The compact will be a compact plus a saw layer and a pliers layer for a total of 4 layers.
The OHT mod is simpler, replace philips with corkscrew, lol!
I really think the compact mod could become my "one SAK".
Just need to roundup a pliers layer.

However lately my modded Spirit is my most carried Victorinox.

I like the sound of both of them! What I call my Huntsman Slim (Compact with a saw layer added) was the first mod I did and I still think one of the most practical.

The OHT is basically becoming an OHF (one handed Forester), nice.

I don't have the technical ability to successfullly mod so I have to rely on craftsmen such as yourself for that but I had a thought. Since I prefer the slide lock over the liner lock on 111mm Vics, what about replacing the main blade on a Rucksack or a Hunter with one from an OHT? I know the OH Fireman exists but I don't need the extra layer. And I prefer the corkscrew over the phillips.

Thanks for the compliment but really i'm still an amateur when it comes to SAK mods.
However there are some real SAK modding artists here and over at SOSAK.
And Scibeer does some really awesome work!Hes the true mod-master!

I actually have the OH Fireman and the OH Trekker.
I totally agree on the superfluous nature of the Fireman's extra layer.
I will be taking the Fireman's corkscrew and put it on my OHT.
Apparently this mod only requires the removal of the one pin that retains the awl and philips. Its does not require the total dismantling of the SAK.

Later on i'm thinking of making the fireman into a slimline SAK with some nice wood or linen micarta scales.

Regarding OHT/Rucksack blade swapping i maybe wrong but I've heard through the grapevine that mixing the parts between the 111mm's with the two different lockups can be problematic. Something to do with having to redrill the pinholes because they are different diameters?
I'm sure somebody here will pipe in with more detailed info.

I usually carry a Ranger hooked to the edge of my front pocket with a S-biner or a small carabiner. If I am wearing jeans I usually stuff it into the watch/coin pocket, it fits just fine.

I carry my deluxe tinker in my back pocket by my wallet. I took a piece of paracord about six inches long, and tied a big stopper knot. Keep that stuck under my belt to keep it from sliding around and that way it's always handy.

Oh man, did I mess up or what?
I was looking at search results for something else and I found this thread but I didn't notice how old it was.
Typical noob mistake and I apologize.
I will practice enhanced situational awareness from this point forward.
No mistake, I was just surprised to see an old thread of mine pop back up.
We have all likely done it at some point, if anything it was nice to see some of the replies again.
