I am so confused. I don't know what to get for my first knife

Thank you for all the responds so far.

Again I only want to spend $75 or less. So the mini-grip with S30V from ritter is out of the question. I have looked at the Native III and Eudura they are nice but they both lack the ability to open AND close single-handedly.

Right now I am just can't decide between the mini-grip with D2, Kabar Dozier and the BUCK 110.

The latter two would make a good inexpensive starter knife but perhaps I should just take the dive right into the above average ones with the mini-grip. I still have to read up on for a sharpener, maybe the price of a good sharpener will be the deciding factor.

Spydie mid-lockbacks can be closed one handed.. I do it all the time. Find one in a store to try...

I think you have a good list, now all you need is a store where you can handle them to see what you really like.

I'll be taking a trip to Cabela on Sat. I'll get to play with all the different knives. HAHA. :p

have fun, and of course come back and tell us about it and ask more questions...

P.S. Bring band-aids just in case, since you'll ba handling many unfamiliar knives. :o

hey, sounds like fun. You should pick each of us up a souvenir from the knife section, while you're there :D
Check out the Buck 110 in S30V; excellent steel and a classic design, but it's not 1-handed. Have fun :)

I would like to see what kind of selection they have in their store, they don't give much in their catalog, maybe two pages worth.

You guys if you have one near ya should check out Bass Pro Shops, the prices aren't that bad and they have a crapload of knives on display that you can play with, at least the one in Auburn near me does.

A Spyerco Delica is a great first knife. It isn't expensive, it is highly useful, easily taken on and off the pocket, can be used with or without the clip. You can buy it in differenent edge types also, and is generally one of the best values out there in the knife world. I highly recommend it for a first timer. There is a good reason it is Spydercos best seller of all time.

Hey guys... I got my knife at Cabela this past weekend. After trying several different ones, I've chosen the mini-grip with D2 (my original choice). I love it so far and I've been playing with it all day yesterday and my middle finger is hurting. :D

Anyway, I am getting a knife sharpener soon (Sharpmaker 204). And a kabar dozier to learn sharpening on. I'll also use the dozier for camping and other rough tasks since it's so cheap (only $17). Unless you guys can recommand another knife around the same price (that's better or equal).

Hai ZimmerDN,

Welcome to this nice forum.
The mini-grip with D2 from Cabela is a good choice for a first knife!

Regards. :)

my second axis lock BM came today.
A mini grip 556 in yellow, it's a looker. Not that bad of a color and of course I love the axis lock.
My next knife will be even cheaper or the same. I'm looking at the Mouse 2 lite or Mouse 2 in G10.
My collection so far, BM 730, MT minisocom elite in urban camo, 5 various SAK, and this BM 556. My SAK's have been with me for over 15 yrs and saved a camping trip once. I was the only one that had a can openner.

You mean your first knife ever?? or your first one of each brand??
First one ever...I'd recommend a Schrade LB8...no wait ...make that a Kershaw 1050...no wait...an Olsen skinner...etc.
Com'on...yer first knife ever was a butter knife...am I right?? You know...when Mommie first let you cut your own meat....now its a matter of first one of such and such...then a collection...then....hunters and daggers and swords.....oh my!!

blade virginity...you lost that long time ago.

I have a $20 dollar Kershaw K.O. Vapor (plain edge). It is a good quality knife, very sharp out of the box, and cheap enough to be expendable or abused if need be.
