I am wanting a frame lock folder

The Kershaw Leek is indeed awesome. Check mine out.

1 side G10, one side steel framelock, S30V blade! Don't see many like that do you!

Is it a mod, or is it available from the factory?
If so, do ya happen to have a Model Number? (So many Leeks...)

Thanks,

Sorry I'm so late getting into this one. I just now found it.I see so many nice frame locks out there today. Of the ones I have handled that I like I'll list them in order of sizes.

In larger more expensive folders my first picks would be. (not necessarily in this order)

Strider SnG which I like for the blade shape and the built in choil as well as the Hinderer lock stabalizer. I don't much care for the pocket clip on these knives and how tight they grab right out of the mailer. They are strong though and work fine once you adjust them to suit you.

Kershaw Tyrade. What a great folder. It has the flipper and is assisted opening of course and this makes it just as safe to use as a choiled folder but also it has a nice new age blade steel that has shown me in the one I have that it can stand toe to toe with anything else being made. Get one while you still can if you want a big bad knife. I do not like the clip on this folder at all, and I don't much care for tip down on any flipper but if you can live with that its a fine folder.

Bradley Alias. This is a good size, great weight, has everything and a good clip with options for carry. No choil but I just like that. Its not all that necessary with a frame lock for safety but I like it for the added benefit of choking up on the blade some for detail work with the point at times. Again that is more personal though than needed so take it with a grain of salt.

I could go on but these would be the top three if you are not wanting a Sebbie I think.

In a medium length/weight there are a lot of choices.

I like the Bradley Alias II a lot. BenchMade makes this folder for them and its a wonderful little folder period.

The Buck Mayo is a great knife. I think it would be even better without that horn up on it or wing that is right where I want to put my thumb when I use one but otherwise its a good little folder.

Strider PT. This is another fine user. I loved the knife. Just couldn't make it work in my hand too well. It has a lot going on for it that makes it a stand out but perhaps the only thing I don't care for are the over aggressive texture and sharp edges. I also note that on every Strider I've owned they developed vertical blade play I had to adjust out. It wasn't a problem really but seems to be written about frequently and expected. I also note that like many of my Emerson folders they all have pivot barrels that seem to just loosen themselves up regularly no matter what I've used to try to stop it from happening. Here lately I've been using Sportsmans Goop. We'll see how that pans out over time.

In cheaper folders.

The Boker Trance is a real sleeper. I was just given one as a gift for Christmas and must say its not a bad little deal at all if you just want a good tough beater. AUS8 steel in a nice Wharncliffe style blade slightly modified but still plenty of straight edge.

The Kershaw Vapor is a fine user and everyday knife for little investment as is either Storm model.

The frame lock Leek is also a fine user available in many blade steel choices. It may well be one of my favorite Kershaws.

Some other well made frame locks are the Emerson HD 12 and HD7.

The 12 is an awesome knife. I'd like to see Ernie make one in a mini personally. The 7 is quite nice also but I have no use for a chisel grind at all and sold mine just for that reason. I also don't find much practical use for a Tanto blade shape. I wish he offered this folder in the 7 A blade. It would be my first pick if that were the case.

Also, the ZT301/302 are excellent frame locks but at 8 plus ounces the are not for everyone. Frankly I wish these were available in a mini also. At 6.4 ounces the Tyrade is all the folder I want in my pocket personally and I can't carry it that well due to how heavy it feels. My gun fully loaded isn't as noticed as these big frame locks are when packin' one. Go figure.

Thanks so much fellas for the advice. It is mucho appreciated. I am currently looking at the AG Russell offering in ats34 but am concerned about the grip ergos for me. I am liking the 12 from EKI but it is pretty pricy. TOPS puts out one in the Thunder Hawke and I like the blade style on that. Just wish it didn't have all that writing on the blade. Also BlackHawk markets the Silent Partner with all s.s. frame/g10 and 440c blade and cheap to boot. Truth be told if I could afford one frame lock without a doubt it would be the MPF pe in the A2. Now that is a folder. Food for thought for sure. Definetly won't go with a Kershaw or Boker models nor BM. Have had the 600 series of the 635 and 630 and didn't like them at all. One was to big and one was to small. Don't think I'll go for an Alias as it reminds me of the Sebbie and again it is all about grip ergo's for me, and that is where the 12 seems to shine. Which makes me thing the Thunder Hawke would work well too and almost a hundred bucks cheaper on line. Last but not leas the RijBack might be a contender too. Thanks and keepem sharp

Well just bought the Viele designed Silent Partner. Hey for less than 50 bucks shipped with a 440c blade that is 3.4" long with g10 over a s.s. frame not much to loose really. If I like it I'll upgrade to something else. I like the looks of the AG Russells to tell the truth and I like ats34 steel. Other than 01 I think it may be my favorite. Still thinking of the MPF though. keepem sharp

PS will this ever end?

Thanks,

The S30V G10 one is factory made with a liner lock and the stainless steel framelock with 440A steel is also factory made. I just bought both and combined them. I have the S30V Framelock with G10 opposite the framelock side (seen above) and my girlfriend has the 440A blade with the G10 liner lock side and the stainless steel side opposite it.

So I guess it is a mod, but all factory made.

I would take a look at the cqc 12 since you like the 14 so much. The 12 has one of the most comfortable grips of all the knives I've handled. The lock up is very secure and I hope EKI keeps producing these so I can continue to buy the same knife over and over again. Hope this helps.
