I been selling knives 20yrs.........

Damn liberal hillbillys....:thumbdn::mad:

:p

We call them yankees around here. Or halfbacks. They move from the north, to Florida, realizes it sucks, then move half way back, to Tennessee.

What I've found with store clerks whether selling knives or guns. They usually know Jack and s**t. And Jack left town. Just sayin!

It never ceases to amaze me what these people are telling other ignorant gun and knife newbs.

Here's an example;

"You don't have to aim a shotgun. You can just shoot from the hip like this."
(as he shows you)

I have a GT Distributors right down from my work. You wanna talk about a tactisexual mall ninja's wet dream? It's a flippin wonderland up in there. Lots of knives. Mostly folders. Spyderco, Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, 5.11, etc.

They do however have some Beckers. They have the BK7 and BK1 is it? Looks like an Eskabar kinda. Anyways very few fixed blades.

I run into the same thing down here. I've known the guys at a local army store for nearly 30 years. I was there one day when the mother of a deployed soldier came in looking for a good, small, light-weight knife to send to her son. Tony said that happens all the time. I said he should get a few RC-3MILs and try them out. I got "who are those made by?" I explained but they only get knives through a specific distributor. I have sold some of my own knives on consignment there so I have been thinking about getting a few 3MILs or assortment of ESEE-3s and trying to help spread the word.

There is a knife store across the street from my work. Likely the biggest knife store in town. Everyone raves about how big of a selection and how cool the knifes are...and they have swords! Seriously I don't think there is a single blade in the joint worth more the $10, some are priced higher but thats besides the point. How they stay open is beyond me. I asked them if they ever thought about carrying ESEE knives, they had never heard of it. Figured there was a simple explanation for that, these folks never intended to sell a quality product...

Now another store down the street from my house who carries a mixture of LEO supplies some cheapo stuff and some decent stuff. He had heard of ESEE but never handled them, they currently have some becker knives. I brought my knives in to show him one day and now he is looking to get set up as a dealer. Hope it works out, then again this could be very dangerous for me, 2 blocks from the house and all.

What is ESEE? Or RAT Cutlery? Or Ontario for that matter? All I know is I like knifes. Not knives, knifes.

Fantastic, eat some steak for me. Wish I coulda joined ya'll, but alas, someone has to stand post at Ethan's front gate. Gotta keep the hordes of fans from overrunning it.

Moose

So, if Moose is standing post out front ... :eek:;)

EDIT: I have been 'discussing' knives with the folks who handle said gear at the Quantico BX. It's early yet, but I have hopes I can ween them off tacti-cool and onto a few slip joints and perhaps some Becker/ESEE action. It will take time ... but, at my age, I still have some of that left.

"ESEE, used to be R.A.T. Cutlery, just split from Ontario a short time back."

"Buddy, I been selling knives for 20yrs, and I never heard of any of them names you just said. Must not be real famous or real good, one usually leads to the other."

Lol. This line is too full of fail to mention. I used to go into those shops and be in awe. Now they're just Kmarts with cheap crap made out to look cool. It's sad, but the interwebs are the only place to get decent equipment in most cases now.

Moose,

Are you speaking of a green building sitting off the interstate? If so that place ain't like it used to be. Bought my first multitool there about 13 years ago. I don't even like going in there anymore.

No, we will not name names, but I know the place you are talking about. There are so many gear stores around here and only a couple carry good stuff, with knowledgeable staff. Tactikool sells stuff, good sense and quality products don't.

When did Ethan go to work in retail? I just talked to him on the phone and he didn't tell me anything about that. In fact Mike and I are meeting up with him and his son somewhere in Arizona tomorrow night for dinner.

lol. :thumbup:

Figures, tell them Alabama is better. Maybe the hogs will get them.

Nope, so close to the border this place is known as "floribama" - gotta get them up a ways so they won't come back.

Send them to Oklahoma then, they need the population growth.

Floribama, huh, met David Allen Coe at a place called Floribama's, in another life, there was one helluva mullet toss goin' on and we got to hear DAC sing. I woke up in the sand 3 days later at PC Beach. Gawd I Spring Break was awesome.

Lol, he can teach you mall ninja skills. Have you ever noticed skills has KILLS in it?

Some people sell shit for 20 years , while the guy next door to them sells diamonds.

I've been in so many shops like that , I learned to keep my trap shut a long time ago. Some people are very narrow-minded , don't care what the real deal is , and just want to sell crap to the uninformed just to make a buck. I cringe hearing some of the sales pitches guys make to knife buyers. Jeff was right when he said this business is 90% BS. We must make up the other 10 % ;)

Hate gun stores, and knife stores are even worse, cause any idiot can buy a knife, they are a lot cheaper to own.
