Just wondering, were you doing a bend test while you were batoning? I'm thinking it would be much different subjecting a short blade like the SOB to a 45 degree bend than the longer blades posted by Dave and Voracious1.

..... reading the Op's statement the blade got down to a knot in the wood and it would appear it has decided to follow the path of least resistance AROUND the knot and not through it. Hence the bend.So if you are hitting the knife on the spine how does it bend 45 degrees? Confused
