I bent my SOB

So if you are hitting the knife on the spine how does it bend 45 degrees? Confused
..... reading the Op's statement the blade got down to a knot in the wood and it would appear it has decided to follow the path of least resistance AROUND the knot and not through it. Hence the bend.
 
I don't think there is blame being attributed anywhere mate. The operator was doing what he wanted with the knife (one of the reasons we are all so fond of Busse/INFI is the performance and time and time again we are challenged to beat on 'em and such) and the fact that a short stout blade like the SOB did not break under such lateral force is a testament to its quality.

I personally would probably have not been using an SOB for this task (horses for courses and such) but at the end of the day there is no real bad outcome here.

This is funny. A baseball bat and a knife. Carrying all that along sounds about as cumbersome as say.......
