Don't mind the screaming in the background, that's just my bank account...

Today, I placed the largest order on knives I've ever done. And I blame you, bladeforums. How. Dare. You.

This is the story of how a fool was seperated from his deployment money by a bunch of internet strangers and the unending praise they sing of all things metal, sharp, and pointy:

So, I come to this site researching Case knives. My old Platoon Sgt always carried a Case with him, constantly bringing that little no-lock-having-thing out of his pocket the entire time we were deployed in Kandahar. This deployment, I wanted to make a little tradition of my own. So I googled "slipjoint knives" and up pops the Traditional Forums on this here website. And it was all down hill from there. After much reading and admiring the good-old-boy spirit of the Traditionals sub-forum, I soon parted ways with $50 for a GEC F&F Bullnose. Thanks. Oh yeah, then another $50 because I liked it so much, might as well have a backup.

I love that little hunk of 0-1 tool steel and delrin. Love it. But, I've always fancied those nice, smooth "tactical" blades. My first *real* knife was a Spyderco Endura. So I search around some more, one thing leads to another, and hey... what's this flipper knife everyone keeps talking about? Boom, there goes a $140 gift card for a Benchmade 300SN ball flipper. Thanks, again. And I'll be darned if I don't love it, too.

"Well hey, if you're going to get a flipper, you have to check out Zero Tolerance," say the masses. "Ok," says I. Onto the Kershaw/ZT subforums I go. And wouldn't you know it, they are introducing two of the prettiest knives I've ever seen for pre-order... the 0801 and the 0566. Well, I might as well just put those on pre-order. Why not? Google those suckers up and on that dealer's website I see they have a new Benchmade for pre-oder as well... the Volli. Now that's a sexy knife... sure, I'll just drop that in my shopping cart.

Hey, I love my GEC Sodbuster in O-1 so much... wasn't there a D2 sodbuster made by some Queen-something-or-other company somewhere? Yup there sure was... there goes another $32. Speaking of D-2 I'm pretty sure Benchmade made a couple of knives in D-2 I've heard good things about. I'll just check out the bladeforums again. Wow, pretty good reviews on the Bone Collectors, and they have the hole like I love on my Spydies... wait... WHAT?? They're discontinued?? Well, shucks, I can't *not* buy two of those suckers now can I?

Yeah. Thanks, bladeforums. As if I wasn't already looked at weird enough for being that super-duper "gun guy" in my unit... now I'm the wacko "Knife Nut" too.

So here I sit. Hundreds of dollars lighter. Three blades and three pre-orders heavier. At least I can take solace in the fact that I won't be charged for the pre-orders until they actually ship. I'm done buying knives. For real.

Ok, maybe just for a while.

;) :D

Bingo, hang around here long enough and you'll surely be parted with many, many of your hard earned dollars. But as 9blades points out, at least we hoard useful tools.

Thanks for your service jehicks87.

Thanks for your thanks... as far as useful tools go, I've got literally thousands of dollars tied up in matco, craftsman, and kobalt tools. The dangers of being a mechanic.

By the way... nice avatar. :highly_amused:

You should also not look at the Chris Reeve Sebenza, which has been mentioned, the top knife in the picture.

Strider Knives, the maker of the middle one, is another company you will want to give money to. Do not do this, because their knives have a reputation for quality, and stout build.

Whatever you do, absolutely do not look at Rick Hinderer knives! An example is provided, the bottom-most knife in the picture. These very expensive knives also have a reputation for excellent quality.

Another company you should stay away from is Grayman Knives. Pictured below is an example of their "Dua", next to a couple of ZTs. Yes, that is the real size of the knife.

These beastly beasts are also well built, and will cost you somewhere north of two hundred dollars.

In fact, you should just turn your computer off.

I'd tell ya to run, but it looks like it's already too late.
But looks you don't suffer from the insanity, but rather enjoy every minute of it :D
Welcome to the endless circle that is knife-buying ;)

i feel this pain too....unfortunately ...all of the knives i really really want, like an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle type of want are all custom...or Damascus which might as well be custom....but somehow i'm still going broke just picking up the bargains.....one day ...oh yes...one day they will be mine...all of them! haha

Let's not dwell on CUSTOM knives for him. CUSTOM knife talk should be avoided. I don't want to see the word CUSTOM again in this thread. CUSTOMs are bad.
