And myself of course. I've been happily EDC'ing a Spyderco Delica II for years. I, one day, decide I need a new knife and start looking. Check out a few forums and land here and read, and read, and read. Ask a few (probably dumb) questions and low and behold...
After about a month I have this:
The first was the second from top, a Boker M-type Chad Los Banos that I got a great deal on at the 'bay. Decided it wasn't an EDC type knife as the channels in the G10 are very sharp and aggressive. Not the best fit and finish in the world, but sharp and pretty nice...especially for the price.
Then came the EDC knife. I really went through a lot of iterations on this one, but landed with the Benchmade Osborne 930 Kulgera (second from bottom). It's a nice enough knife, but actually left me a bit cold after a few days. The blade was dull as hell out of the box and the whole thing seems very light. The blade doesn't really have enough heft to gravity deploy with the AXIS lock unless it's set really loose. The scales are pretty slick and the exposed liners are a little annoying. Plus, it has a funny little blem on the grind right at the tip and it bugs me a little. I may be able to fix it with sharpening.
Next, I really got the bug for a Zero Tolerance. So, I got the ZT350 with the partially serrated blade. It's a beast. Nice and big, heavy, built like a tank, etc. But, it's a little large and heavy for EDC.
However, even knowing that, I got the urge for that lovely G10 Tyrade with the bright orange scales. So, that one made it's way in next. It's nice. The blade is sharp, it locks up great, etc. Nothing really bad to say about it. For the price, it's a real winner.
Last, but certainly not least, I ordered up a Benchmade HK Snody 14205. I decided no recurves for this one, no black blades, no serrations. Now, I wasn't expecting it, but I think I found the best of the bunch for my particular EDC needs.
It feels great. It's a perfect blend of the right heft, the right blade thickness, the right balance, etc. The blade is very sharp. It's perfectly centered and locks up great. The blade had enough heft to deploy easily and very, very smoothly. The G10 scales are textured, but not as rough as the ZT350 (and certainly not as sharp as the Boker M). It's tip-up which is my preference and overall it's a great looking knife.
As I said, I was surprised that it would come out on top considering it's competition, but it did.
So, now here I sit with six knives. I know I'll rotate, but I was really only looking for the one. Obviously I have no willpower and you guys are a terrible influence!!!
Anyway, thanks and I'm going to quit reading now. I'm afraid I'll buy more!
