Howdy folks!
Its true. I did.
I AM FULLY AWARE THAT I BROKE IT BY ABUSING IT. I SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THIS, AND WOULD NOT EXPECT BENCHMADE TO HAVE FIXED IT FOR ME.
So that being said;
(Not "broke" as in the sense that is was visibly broken, but it was messed up bad and I needed to buy another one for parts.
I consider that broken.)
So here's the story.
I use my Adamas as my beater.
I carried it a whole lot and really liked it.
Here's a picture during this time.
When I say beater, I dont mean that I cut abrasive materials, I mean that i:
Pry with it
Throw it
Cut metal
Scrape anything and everything
Dig with it
Use it as a hammer
Use it like a screwdriver
Pry with it even harder
Sharpen it on rocks/bricks
I've even used it as a fire poker.
So during the last winter, I got a little rambunctious....
I decided to throw it at a metal sign.
I was using it as a shooting target, and had JUST gotten done shooting it.
Not a metal sign like off a street, but an "old" advertisement sign. Probably 1/8" thick.
First few throws hit wrong and it just bounced off.
After a few throws, I got it to hit blade first, but it wasn't traveling fast enough to penetrate fully.
So I threw it harder. And I mean harder.
It worked! Stabbed right through.
After this I tried again from farther away.
It hit right on the spine and collapsed the lock.
Right away I knew I screwed it up.
It takes some serious force to collapse an Axis lock, nonetheless the Axis lock on an Adamas. (Its thicker).
Later that night I inspected it.
There was a TON of vertical play, and a fairly light spine whack would collapse it.
Damn. Its broken.
I wasn't even going to try to send it in. I broke it being an idiot. This wasn't a warranty issue.
Here's some pictures. it doesn't look like much, but you can see on the liners where the lock bar smashed into it.
So I thought that was it.
I had to buy another for parts. But where?
Well they always show up when you least expect it.
One of the folks I follow on Instagram had one for sale. Cheap.
I bought it.
Needless to say its fixed now.
Put my beater blade into the handle-assembly I bought and I'm back-at-it.
And I'm using it as my beater again.
Just won't be throwing it at a sign anytime soon.
Thanks for reading.
