Howdy folks!

Its true. I did.

I AM FULLY AWARE THAT I BROKE IT BY ABUSING IT. I SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THIS, AND WOULD NOT EXPECT BENCHMADE TO HAVE FIXED IT FOR ME.
So that being said;

(Not "broke" as in the sense that is was visibly broken, but it was messed up bad and I needed to buy another one for parts.
I consider that broken.)

So here's the story.

I use my Adamas as my beater.
I carried it a whole lot and really liked it.
Here's a picture during this time.

When I say beater, I dont mean that I cut abrasive materials, I mean that i:
Pry with it
Throw it
Cut metal
Scrape anything and everything
Dig with it
Use it as a hammer
Use it like a screwdriver
Pry with it even harder :D
Sharpen it on rocks/bricks
I've even used it as a fire poker.

So during the last winter, I got a little rambunctious....

I decided to throw it at a metal sign.
I was using it as a shooting target, and had JUST gotten done shooting it.
Not a metal sign like off a street, but an "old" advertisement sign. Probably 1/8" thick.

First few throws hit wrong and it just bounced off.
After a few throws, I got it to hit blade first, but it wasn't traveling fast enough to penetrate fully.
So I threw it harder. And I mean harder.
It worked! Stabbed right through.

After this I tried again from farther away.
It hit right on the spine and collapsed the lock.
Right away I knew I screwed it up.
It takes some serious force to collapse an Axis lock, nonetheless the Axis lock on an Adamas. (Its thicker).

Later that night I inspected it.
There was a TON of vertical play, and a fairly light spine whack would collapse it.
Damn. Its broken.
I wasn't even going to try to send it in. I broke it being an idiot. This wasn't a warranty issue.
Here's some pictures. it doesn't look like much, but you can see on the liners where the lock bar smashed into it.

So I thought that was it.
I had to buy another for parts. But where?
Well they always show up when you least expect it.
One of the folks I follow on Instagram had one for sale. Cheap.
I bought it.
Needless to say its fixed now.
Put my beater blade into the handle-assembly I bought and I'm back-at-it.
And I'm using it as my beater again.
Just won't be throwing it at a sign anytime soon.
Thanks for reading.

I've had two or three of these, tan, black...loved 'em, sold 'em as usual. Wonderful heavy-duty knife...one of the best things that BM has done in a long time...

I get using it for hard use. Throwing it at a sign? Well, it's your money to waste.

I'll have to get another one, I don't know why I sold it in the first place. Thanks for the torture test, I'll know what not to do with my new one, not that I would consider doing so.

BM will sell you a replacement blade should you choose to for $30-40 so long as the blade is still available and the blade to be replaced is surrendered.

Instead of the light harded jab at BM QC that I was planning on shoehorning in, I've decided to recommend that you buy a throwing knife.

Because the thought of throwing a 200$ folder hurts, may as well get the money in singles and make it rain over some fire.

Hey, we've all done dumb stuff.
I paid the price (literally).

I'll give you credit. You admit you abused it, voided the warranty, and didn't try to send it to BM with a bull crap excuse and/or complain about BM customer service.

You'll change your mind of you are ever attacked by one. A few years back, I had a couple of signs gang up on me. Stole my wallet and sent me to the ER. I've never looked at signs the same since (I thought they were just helpful in offering directions), and practice chucking all sorts of things at them, from ninja stars to customs folders.

Not cool. Not cool at all.

Don't assume that all signs are bad because of the bad behavior of a few.

Exactly what I was thinking gazs!! I've seen tons of guys send knives in that shape complain about the knife and get pissed when warranty service is denied!!
I'll say one thing, that is one TOUGH knife!!
Also, BM would've replaced the blade for $40! So if you ever decide to take out another sign, you know what to do!!
Good thread BB!!
