I broke my villager (for real)

Are kardas and chakmas guaranteed for life?

Maybe I'll start throwing them around. :) It's much safer.

Thanks for great link Vicks:) My little bro's birthday is coming up in may and a throwing knife or hawk for those prices is just perfect! You've saved me hours of wandering the mall---and for that I am truly grateful. Me and malls don't mix:mad:

Get some of those MA stars, Bruise -- they always stick.

Yep! If you can find them. Speaking of which, does anyone have a good site for throwing stars?? Thanks in advance:)

Speaking from experience from an old ndn who used to throw any knife I could get my hands on, from a small knife home made from a keyhole saw to a nice German Bayonet, get a throwing knife.
Actually get at least 3 of them as it will save you a lot of steps.:)
The stars are just meant to wound although I guess they might be fun to throw, never had any.
With a little/ or lot of/ practice with several old beaters of different weights, lengths, and balances it won't be long until you can accurately judge the sticking distance of any knife you pick up.
I can't do that anymore, but I sure could when I was deep into it.
We had a huge Grandpa Cottonwood in our backyard in Turley that me and my buddie's almost killed. It was about 3 1/2 feet in diameter and we had a hole about 6 inches deep cut into one side of it from throwing all sorts of edged things into it.
( No such things as video games back then and we had to invent our own fun.;))
At one time I could split a 2x4 nine times outta ten with my hatchet from 30 feet away.
I had a huge callous on the ball of my right palm from being cut so much from throwing really sharp blades by the blade, done right you can do it without getting cut, took me a while to learn that.

One word of caution if you're gonna do this at any time with any kind of knife, don't know about the stars but imagine they will be similar..
Get yourself some heavy duty goggles that cover your eyes really good!!!!
I can't count the times I've had knives ricochet off the target and come flying towards me.
I was really lucky, actually protected by the Old Ones I believe, one time when the first decent knife I ever owned came flying back and hit me just below my left eye in the cheek bone point
first.
It didn't penetrate deep enough to stick, but it left a dayumed nice hole and a black eye.
I told my folks that one of the guys let a heavy branch go and it flew back and hit me and a stub on it was what made the hole.
They told me to be more careful and to not follow so close. I told them I would and wouldn't.:D

I've seen a few really decent knife throwing websites, but I haven't bookmarked any. I bet a search done here on the forums would turn some up though.
Just be careful guys. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt and then that's for life!!!!:(

Thanks for good info, Bro.

Bro said get three. It'll save you steps. Pappy said think about it twice or three times before you throw your weapon. If it's anything but a fun situation better have a backup system if you're going to throw.

Now for the throwers out there here's a Socrates question:

Why throw?

Because it's there just begging you to stick it. I swear, that tree gave me the raspberry!

Maybe now that I think of it a bolo machete with the rounded point isn't the best thing to throw if you want it to stick. And it only took 37 years to realize that!

That's one reason. Although I personally never met a tree that asked me to throw a knife into it.

A good friend of mine who died last year was a Viet Nam veteran with decorations for valor and a lot of combat experience (he was also a native of Reno, Nevada; must be something in the water...) He made a point of qualifying with every type of weapon he could persuade 'em to set a test for, including throwing knives.

He said that the only time he'd be prepared to throw a knife in combat was if the other guy was unarmed and he felt sorry for him; and *that*, he added, was about as likely as snowstorms in a certain Very Hot Place.

I think I'll ask Sanu to make us a dozen.

That would be REALLY cool!! I realize you're just teasing but the kamis could make some impressive ones I'm sure:)

In all seriousness, I used to throw them alot as a teenager (ninja movies were huge back then) and got quite good. IIRC, I could hit a 3" circle from 20-25 feet most of the time. The best one I ever used was a big (6" diameter)one 4 points, simple triangle points that were sharpened on every edge. The points were about 2" long and would bury up to the hilt in oak trees, although my dad preferred that we use old boards for some reason;)

If I can find one I might just send it on to the Cantina to see what Uncle thinks of it as a possible project:) They really are alot of fun to throw and never come back at you!!

Why throw? Only for fun in my case.

I have two homemade throwers, they look like big bowies but are not suitable for purposes other than throwing. Their primary purpose in life is for 'hawk & knife throw competitions at Rendezvous.

Their secondary purpose is for division of chores in hunting camp, which is always equipped with a suitable 'hawk block. We throw to determine who does the dishes after each meal, who hauls the water, who christens the whiskey bottle, etc.

In some of the more creative competitions, I've seen three "badguy" targets set up at various distances. The competitor would have to shoot the furthest one with a single shot pistol, throw the hawk at the second and knife at the third. The premise was to engage all three targets before they could shoot you.

Of course given a similar pre-1840's real life situation I suppose I would engage the closest target with my .54 and then run like hell. Nothing like the threat of immobile wooden men to embolden the mountain man spirit.

<edited because my grammar was lacking>

Nice!:D

BTW, I just ordered 2 throwing stars. I'll let you know how they are when they get here.:)

The trick is to get bullet, hawk and knife all in the air at the same time -- and don't miss with any of them.

Just wanted to let you all know that I recived the brocken villager. The PO says it came in on the 26th but I cheched my mail last week and never saw the notice. But luckaly it was there Thursday when I looked. Right now I'm in the process of fighting an Ulcer and getting ready to move so I don't have the time to fix the blade. Will get to it after the move.

Uncle, my mailing address is the same and I sent another payment. Would have sent the money earlier but I lost the envalope:o:o:o:o and just bairly found it.

Kurt, this Village BAS is sweet. I'll do what ever I can to save it. Just holding the blade, I can tell it wants to work. Will make sure to get pics of the Khuk for every one to see.

Well, I'm off to work to clean up after Graduation here at Snow. You all have a great day.

wildmanh, I'm glad you like it. I agree that it's a pretty blade, especially for a villager. It's certainly worth saving. Make sure you let us know how it turns out.
