doesnt work.

obviously im missing something about forge making.

i made a "forge" from a 8'' dia by 10'' metal cylinder. has a chamber of 2.5'' x 10''. have a hole in the side for my propane torch (upper half of the inner chamber)

put the torch in for 20 min, not very hot, mostly just the flame from the torch. wont heat steel for crap.

do i need a bigger torch? (make a burner/use a HF weed burner?)

how long does it normally take to warm up the forge?

what type of refractory did you line your forge with? Did you use kaowool (ceramic blanket) or a castable refractory?
 
castable refractory mixed with pearlite (expanded volcanic rock)

should insulate very well. think i might need a bigger burner.
 
Try this for a larger cheapo burner. Harbour Freight has some large ice melting burners. Some have had good results using this burner.
