I can't believe I may do this

It sounds ridiculous but Gerber actually has a custom shop that I played around with a little bit and came up with this.

Now I really want it. I have everything else, nothing has caught my eye lately, but spending 175 on any Gerber is making me pause.

If anyone has experience with their custom shop please let me know.

No experience with their custom shop but you would assume it would be better than factory made run of the mill. If I remember correctly that model comes with S30V. Unless they had an option for some more exotic steel, that is a better looking S30V liner lock blade for $175...made by gerber. I know they are doing better but even still, if I had 175$ to spend on a new knife and nothing was speaking to me I'd just wait. With the rate that things are being released something is bound to come up in that price range.

Been burned one too many times on cool looking Gerbers. They’re eye-catching but functionally they’re always disappointing.

$175 can still buy a lot in today’s market - specifically WE, & lionsteel.

Pens are a dime a dozen;and thats alot of money for that combo;hardly worth it.

I may be reading this wrong, but I think the pen is in there as a size comparison. Looks to me like its $175 for the blade alone. I know gerber has been stepping their game up a bit more in the past few years, but as I said above this is a Gerber manufactured knife with S30V for $175. If it speaks to the OP, than great its his/her money. As crazy as some of the prices have been recently, $175 still gets you quite a lot. You can be getting at the very least S35VN and probably 20CV, M390, M4, Spy27 and more for that price.

I like that big companies like Benchmade and Gerber are going to this custom shop route (hopefully spyderco to follow and eliminate the frustrating sprint run model) but 175$ for this is pretty steep compared to what else is out there in that range.

I've heard mixed reviews for this knife, but mostly on the positive side. It looks pretty cool in that set up. I say go for it.

Tuffwriter makes a great pen in brass or copper. I went brass and a titanium. The company is local to me and the guy was beyond easy to work with that owns it.

Dude, that pen on the left has had a terrible heat treat. You can tell they really burned it on the grinder. That thing isn't going to cut worth a darn, or at the very least expect it to either chip out or roll in short order.

As for the Gerber... for that money you are getting close to ZT pricing. But if it makes you happy, I'm happy.

Hahaha! I was actually worried for a sec there.

Zt, company I have zero models from, I've always stayed away from them for really silly reasons. But yes the 175 is in line with a lot of great options.

If you " can't believe ..." then maybe wait , think , look around some more ?

Hadn’t bought a Gerber knife in a long time. Have a couple of their multi tools and they are serviceable (prefer Leatherman).

As far as pens go I keep a Fisher Space pen in my pocket. But the Zebra f-701 is hard to beat as a sturdy “hard use” implement. Especially at it’s price point.

To the OP - if you like it, get it.

I haven’t owned many Gerbers but the US made ones I’ve used were at least worth the price of admission. Yes, this is somewhat pricey but it’s a “custom” knife made how you want it. And granted Benchmades are a step or two above Gerber, you can easily spend $250 on a custom Bugout and nobody seems to mind.

Steel isn’t everything especially if it’s going to be a paper slicing fidget spinner and occasional Amazon package opener like most knives these days are designed to be. If you will enjoy the knife you should just get it.

I wouldn't pay that for a gerber. To many other good knives for that price.

On the topic of pens, I've been buying up some twosun knives off the bay and just found out they do pens as well. They have some cool ones.
