I can't believe I may do this

Tuffwriter makes a great pen in brass or copper. I went brass and a titanium. The company is local to me and the guy was beyond easy to work with that owns it.

I really would like to try those as I have been eyeballing them for a while but I'd love to keep it below $100

I gave my groomsmen tuff writer pens as gifts, they are great. Owner is also very nice and helped me out when I had a problem with my original kickstarter clicky pen.

That's interesting at least. I'd written off Gerber years ago. Then they released the Fastball and it was almost good... almost. I'd love to see better things out of Gerber.

My issue with a lot of modern EDC pens is that many seem chunky or over-complicated with superfluous connections, edges, corners, bits, milled sections, etc. Some are straight-up tacticool.

My go-to EDC pen is the Pentel Philography (a.k.a. the Pentel Style). It's as sturdy as a pen needs to be and it's classy enough for the office. It's affordable enough to get a few in different body colors. It also works with a decent selection of refills including the excellent Energel series.

Have you tried a fastball already? If you haven't I'd probably recommend trying one of the production models first before spending this amount on one.

I love my fastball collection, currently have 6. I've been eying a couple combos in the customized myself.

Pretty nice gift! Jack always answered every time I called, and geeked out on pen talk for hours, got me hooked. He's getting into laser engraving, I like what he's doing with designs.

The piston type clicky is like nothing else I've had. A little wd40 after a few weeks and it was as smooth as all get out.

Good advice, there is actually one place that has it, I'm going to try it out.

my favorite pens ever and fountain pens were Parker
There is a member of this very forum who elevates the Parker housing to beautiful heights! I won’t embarrass @Dopic1 by tagging him, though... ;)

EDIT: sorry to be off topic, OP. I say if you like the look of a custom Gerber, then why the heck not? I guess the only issue is that if it turns out to be a lemon, then you’d be taking one for the whole team here on BF! If, on the other hand, it turned out to be excellent, you will be hailed as a trailblazer!

image.jpg The blue Fisher Space pen is my EDC and rides next to my Maglite Solitaire flashlight. The Brass Fisher pen is my office pen. Not near as fancy as some of the other pens shown here but they work. Those Tuff Writer pens are just plain beautiful.

The answer is - Bic.

This is correct. And it doesn't matter whether the question is "Which pen?" or "Which lighter?".... it is dead on.

I would grab a production model and pack it around for awhile. If you enjoy the off-the-shelf one, then you'll dig your customized version.

I don't see the price as out of line for the one you customized to your liking. I say go for it.

If you want to get rid of it later, Gerber isn't really one of those brands that holds its value in the secondary market like some others.

But if you are like me, you buy the knife for the knife and not the potential for resale.

If you get it, please do a review of it. I'm a Gerber fan and have high hopes that they can get some of their old mojo back.

Yeah I have a hard time selling knives, I always buy to keep and pass down the line. Same as you and another setiments here that Gerber is hopefully pulling back out into a better path.

My space pen has served me well, Fiskar products I’d take a hard pass on

I still EDC a Bic lighter even though I don't smoke. I learned growing up that all men should be able to tell the time, cut things, and make fire. The classic disposable Bic lighter is really hard to beat for EDC. They work well with a lot of pocket organizers too.

I've probably been through a thousand Bic pens in my lifetime. They are okay but nothing to write home about.

I couldn't help it but seriously, it's not because they are cheap or how they look. Classic Bic pens just don't write all that well compared to such a huge pool of other options. Sit down and write a paragraph with a classic Bic and then do the same with a modern ball-point like the Uni-ball Jetstream or a good modern gel like the Energel or one of those S-Gels pictured above. They write more smoothly and put down a better line. There's also the issue of how you carry and the clip on classic Bic sticks.

I've really been enjoying the S-Gels. Like the Energels, their refills fit into a bunch of different pen bodies. I don't like the shape of their pen body, so that's all I do with them. (Try transplanting one to a Sarasa Clip body.) The S-Gels also come with excellent springs. I've transplanted those to a few other pens as well.

Twosun is getting hard to buy at a decent price
Whats a decent price though? I just started buying them and only have 2 but another being delivered Tuesday and 4 others on the way after that still. Im absolutely blown away by how well they are made, the materials and all the fine milling done on the titanium. All I can think about it how if spyderco or some other company made this exact same knife itd cost 3× to 5× more $$. You can get a rock solid. Smooth full titanium frame lock knife with m390 or s90v for $100 or less...id say that's a very decent price.
