I can't decide! Ka-Bar Dozier or Spyderco Calypso Jr.?

* find a Caly Jr.
I own both.
The k-Bar is a great knife for the money.
The Calypso Jr is a far superior knife.
VG10 steel - better steel, razor like
Flat ground - cuts much easier than a hollow grind.

ZDP-189 is made by Hitachi steel of japan.
it is made of 3% carbon (!!!!) & 20% chromium (!!!!!), the rest of the composition is kept secret.
it is hardened to around 67 RC & is said that not only is it not brittle at that hardness but it's extremely tough, S30V tough, maybe more (i'm not 100% sure about that)...
anyway, it sounds like the steel to put all others to rest (until the next amazing thing comes along :rolleyes: )

Yeah I was about to order one from the Spyderco website a couple days ago, then last night I noticed they were sold out, guess I should have jumped quicker.

Sounds like a helluv a knife steel. 67 RC :eek: And it isn't brittle?? Hm, I hope they haven't unearthed an old Japanese Katana master? :D

Thanks again,
~Paul~

I have both, and if the question is which is the better knife, I say the Calypso Jr. However, you question was bang for the buck. In this case, for half the price, and sometimes under $20, you can't beat the Blade Award winning KaBar Dozier. The big advantage the Spyderco has is the blade. It has a sharper grind, and uses superior steel.

I've never even seen the dozier so obviously can't make an intelligent comparison but I've just got a new grey Calypso and already I'm impressed with it. I find it difficult to imagine you could get a much better knife for the price.
