I can't decide!

I've gotta go with the 4 as well. I love mine! She's beautiful. She's the perfect compnion to my Izula; I got them both at the same time.

You won't be dissappointed with the 4!

To me, when you start talking about blades over about 5 inches, I wonder what you are wanting them for ... I typically think chopping type tasks. For almost all other bushcraft/camping/hunting/hiking/survival type of tasks, I think something in the 3-4.5'' range is much, much better suited than a long 6''+ blade. I went with a swamp rat howling rat, which is quite similar to the RC-4. For chopping, I have my hatchet, and maybe someday I will get a Busse or some other big chopper, but I think I would feel kind of silly carrying that around on a belt for a day hike. It is heavy and cumbersome, overkill, and like I said above, less useful than a smaller blade.

My first esee was the izula, then came the 4... The were both 110% the knife I was expecting. Then I got the 6, also an excelent knife... I have the izzy on my neck, 4 on the belt. And 6 on the pack.

I don't even wanna ask where you have the junglas ;-)

For the OP, I'd also say that I wouldn't worry about overlap between the izula and the 4--the 4 is a very different knife. The full-sized handle makes a huge difference in terms of how it handles and what you can do with it.

I went through this same type of struggle and bought the 6 over the 5. I was pleased to find the 6 was not too big...It's perfect. It really handles like a medium knife. I definitely don't feel like it's cumbersome at all. I wouldn't sweat this decision too hard 'cuz you will be pleased either way..In fact you'll probably end up getting them both if you keep ogling them both long enough.

The 5 is my favorite of the line, but I think for most, the 4 is the best place to start with ESEE knives. It can do a lot of different tasks very very well. The 6 is a good knife(I like mine). But I say give the 4 a shot first. The thickness is the same on the two, but the 4 is probably a little more overall versatile I'd say. It's what I started my ESEE addiction with.

Honestly, you really can't lose no matter what you pick. I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but with ESEE all choices are a win.

RC-4 for sure, I have the Izula but damn that guy got me on the esee/rat kick. I'm looking at an RC-4 and it seems to be the perfect size

I just got my 4 in yesterday. My 1st ESEE. This is probably the sharpest knife I've ever owned right out of the box. Very well made and just looks like a knife you can depend on.

I got 4-3s , 3-4's , and 2-6's. I want my a$$ covered :D

and all the rest of them. WTH , I like Esee's

4 was my first and still is my favorite for all uses.

Another idea is that you could pick up a $14 mora clipper with a 4 inch blade and see how you like it. Obviously not the same as an ESEE RC-4, but might give you an idea as far as general size.

My 4 sees the most use next to my Izula. To me the 6 is more of a camp knife than a blade you would take hiking.

I had the 3, 4, and 6 gifted both the 3 and 4 but will never give up my 6. But i will be replacing the others, i just had to spread the disease to other great family and friends:D!!!!!!

I already ordered an ESEE 4 and some micarta handles for my Izula.

Next on the list is a ESEE 6, a Junglas, or a Lite Machete. I'll test out the 4 and then decide.
