I Can't Keep Them All

Welcome and congrats on a splendid knife, Tele.

CRK tend to make little changes here and there through the production life of a knife. The Regulars with the double cut out were just one of those little changes. It does tend to be associated with a BG-42 blade (not always though) and that is something that many of us are on the look out for. The frame (handle) may aslo have fluting round the outside edges and that is an indicator of a ~2000 vintage year, or there abouts give or take.

I have a knife the same as yours but with no swedge. One of my EDCs is a large Regular in S30V with double lugs and swedge. Easily the best production knife I have found and probably ever will. I don't think it would too much of a stretch to describe the large Regular as Chris Reeve's master piece, add a BG-42 blade and you hare hitting very hard indeed. :)
Thank you. I'm well aware I stumbled upon a gem and plan to appreciate it daily!

I think if it had double lugs, Tele would still be searching for his special Seb.
Yeah, I HATE double lugs....... Ohhhhh. :p

This thread makes my heart ache.... I almost acquired this blade from LW and she was so gracious about holding it for me for a period. But alas, it was not to be as I had things come up that prevented me from buying it. It was fated to be in the new owners hands. And now to help soothe my soul I am going to stop viewing this thread and weep gently in my dark corner...

Enough drama...

Congrats TELE--that's a heckuva first Seb to own!
Thanks! It seems I really was in the right place, at the right time, under the right circumstances.

Tele, be sure to post the pics in the Anticipation Thread, so everyone can drool with you. :D
Will do, but I don't think I can bear to look at another photo before it arrives!

I love double lugs, but I'm ambidextrous. I like when I have a chance to send a knife to it's forever home. So often times you see the same knife over and over, still looking for someone who will love it forever. I even have a couple oif my UG's that I know don't plan to stay with me for life.

You don't have to look at the pics, you post them and others suffer the agony. :p :D

Update! The knife has arrived!

I couldn't help but disassemble it after a few minutes of fondling. I looked over the awesome construction, cleaned everything, threw a lanyard on, and lubed it up. I won't "review" it until I've spent much more time with it (which I plan to do right away), but it's just... right, if that makes any sense. There are no gimmicks, no frills, and no wasted space. It's a beautiful tool; and I can't wait to use it!

I actually have a couple of quick questions as well, if anyone could be so kind as to answer them. I only had Tuf-Glide laying around, so I used that, but is CRK fluorinated grease as good as advertised? Second, does anyone here have experience sharpening on the Spyderco Sharpmaker? I'm planning on sharpening the blade at 30 inclusive and just wanted to make sure it's a suitable edge angle on the Seb before I began. :o

Something tells me you're happy with the trade. :p Sure you don't want to send it back? :D

CRK flourinated grease is excellent. As for 30 degrees all-inclusive, I've never done that. I'm not sure how well that'd hold up to hard use.

Congrats on a rare beauty, I miss it already!

In reality any lubrication will work, the CRK grease just sits in place a bit longer and helps soften the action. I have used Tuf-Glide and even things like chainsaw bar oil as well as other lubes with no issues.
As for sharpening I am not a fan of any sort of system as you are pretty much set to the angles you can have. If you do find that 30 dgrees is too much you can always put a micro bevel on the edge to help it. I would personally not go with 30 degrees and would probably not go far past 25 if even. The less rebeveling ones does the better really. I would start low and make it "sharper" if you feel its needed.

...and congrats again now that you've got your hands on the knife. :)

I took a manix 2 to 30 degrees inclusive and didn't like it too much. One over night camping trip and a couple nice aspen walking sticks later the blade felt like it wasn't as sharp. When we got home I put a micro bevel back on it. Watch the shop tour video. You don't need to do the 30 degree inclusive with he way the sebie's hollow grind is designed. Hope that helps.

That is one fantastic looking knife! Want to trade it for a large 21? :D

Hope you don't mind if I ask a question in this thread?

What do you guys recommend as a good angle for sharpening? I'm not sure that I understand how guided system limit you... Maybe a Lansky, but not an Edge Pro, Wicked Edge or Sharpmaker.

Anyway, I actually have a thread going in the maintenance forum regarding sharpening my Sebenza, and I'd love your advice. I hope that tele feels the same. :o (And that LW doesn't mind!)

Edit- btw tele, from the little that I know Lone Wolf, I'd say that you picked an excellent person to do a trade with. I hope one day that I have something that he likes!

Lone wolfe is a splendid lady person. ;)

What a great knife, I have not seen the Blade of the older Sebenza, it really has a neat shape of the spine.

I would not do a 30 degree inclusive. I have re profiled four Sebenza following Chris Reeve recommendations( I think was (18 ( 36 Inc) to 22 (44 Inc) ) I use the
angle cube on a Wicked Edge. Have done both convex and straight, to me the Small Sebenza is great at 18 or 36 inclusive. If you try the 15, let us know how it comes out, my concern would be at 15 the edge might roll to easy.

That actually comes as some surprise. I generally take every knife down to 30ish degrees inclusive. I'm pretty easy on my knives though. I usually have more than one on me. My 810 is almost always with me and the m4 can handle most anything that I'd be too nervous to use a better knife for.

I'm going to try to follow the grind that is already there, and if that doesn't work for me I'll reprofile.
