I can't stop playing with my Manix 2

This thing sure is fun to play with. The ball bearing lock feels so nice, and the blade opens and closes so smoothly. I find myself picking the manix 2 up more than my military or pm2. Looking forward to this lock loosening up a little bit though.

Next purchase is most likely going to be a black Southard. I want a flipper so bad, but that thing is a little on the pricey side.

I have a manix 2 cruwear and manix 2 xl s90v on me right now. I love the manix line! I'd probably choose them over the military/paramilitary...but then again, probably not :P I love all my Spydies!

You definitely need a southard, what a great flipper. I bought a southard and a manix 2 cruwear about the same time.

Great knives, lots of fun. Enjoy

I've been using the Manix 2 that was loaned to me for a week and I really like it. Smooth opening and nice sound when it locks into place.
Question about closing it. Is it meant to be closed with one hand or two, or both? Because of the placement of the lock release, I close the knife with two hands.

If you like playing with your knife, and like Spydercos, the Southard was made for you. While I m not a big flipper fan, i believe the Southard is one of the very best of the Spydercos.

If I get a nice high grip I can pinch the two lock levers, and swing the blade closed in a single downward motion with one hand.

My satin finish Manix in S30V came in the mail yesterday, I haven't stopped playing with it either. I find the lock rather hard to disengage, loosening or tightening the pivot does nothing. I'm sure it will get easier from use. But opening the blade is buttery smooth, it basically flies out and has zero blade play. Apart from that, the handle resembles that of a Hinderer knife, it's extremely ergonomic and it has jimping all over, feels great to hold.
I found the S30V a pain in the ass to sharpen, It took me over 5 hours of straight sharpening on my non-diamond Lansky set, took a wicked edge though after re-profiling
I'll take a Manix over a PM2 anyday. I'm starting to want the DLC one now ;)although I'm buying the Southard once I deposit my paycheck so it will have to wait

Next to my Dragonfly...the Manix is too big to carry at work, I work at a Grocery store and pulling out a Manix might not be the best idea :D..i'll stick to the Dragon

Mine is easy to close with one hand. I put my thumb on the lock on the left side and the tip of my first finger on the lock on the right side, pinch them together and pull back. The back edge of the knife is forced against my palm. I do this with the blade angled down slightly and when the lock releases the blade swings partly closed. I close it the rest of the way with my thumb. And BTW I now operate my Para2 mostly the same way.

And I agree it is fun to open and close.

The lock of the Manix 2 doesn't depend on a detent ball so the blade opens more smoothly and locks more easily. If you take a knife with liner lock and open it slowly it might not lock completely, but the Manix 2 will lock completely no matter how slowly you open it.

You guys are making me worry. I bought a Manix and a Manix Xl, and I loved them so much that I ordered a PM2. Is it possible, I bought the best one first?

Kershaws what's the date code on your box?

Yep that's the correct date. The reason I ask is it looks llke yours has a clear cage? I thought Spyderco had already changed well before that to the black cage.

Don't think if it is clear that you got something inferior. As I recall nothing was changed with the polymer except the color but people perceive the clear plastic as being cheap or fragile.

Yeah, I bought it specifically for the clear-cage, I like the looks of it better than the black. I knew Spyderco no longer makes the clear-cages so I searched here on the forum for an older model and was lucky to find one right-then and there.

So you switched the cage then or are you saying six months is old?

I didn't switch anything. By "older" I mean the Manix models produced before the black-cage switch. I assume clear-cages were still being produced in February.

I'm fairly sure they weren't which is why asked. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Interesting nonetheless.

It can be easily closed with one hand. In fact, just about any folding knife can be closed with one hand. Just takes practice.

I have the same knife, along with a cruwear manix also. My DLC is my beater...well, so is my cruwear too:D
Just promise me you won't keep it pretty...use the hell out of that thing!

Here's mine, the battle scars have just begun! I've had her only a couple months.

I even open beers with her:D

Hey Rycen, if I'm not mistaken, there have been a few reports of models after the switch date that still had the clear cage. Maybe a few strays laying around the shop after the switch?
