I have been flirting with the Caly 3 CF ZDP for a while now, and for a long time I had resisted it's siren call.

Then about 2 weeks ago I was drinking whiskey looking at knives online.

Now I am a proud owner Caly 3 ZDP/CF and I have to admit, I love the thing! Wow, great work Spyderco, I can't believe it has taken me thing long to get one of these knives!

I could go on and on about the ergos, the FnF, and the pure "hotness", but there's plenty of reviews out there. Just wanted to say thanks for the great knife :D

lol

Drinking whiskey and looking at knives on the internet always leads to purchase.....................or if your broke a bad hangover.;)

I would love to take one of those apart and try some file-work..........while sober of course!

I think the size is the greatest thing about this knife, along with everything else the Caly 3 has to offer, adds up to one sweet edc

This is pretty much the same thing that happened with me. I have been looking at this knife online everyday for the past week. I almost bought it the first time I saw it, but held off. Every day after that I would go on and look at pictures, read reviews on it, then look at some more pictures of it. Finally yesterday I was looking at it again while drinking, and after about my 8th Yuengling I just said the hell with it, and I bought one from New Graham. I should have it in a couple days and I cannot wait!

I always knew that whiskey is good for you :D
Let's do it again, how do you like Native4?

Isn't that true. There's a small Upper Peninsula of Michigan tavern that used to sell Marbles knives in the 90's. They were the largest volume dealer in the entire UP. The combination of alcohol, a display of nice knives and a bar owner who was also a knife guy, was too much to resist. Every time I went there with extra money in my pocket, I staggered out with a new knife or 2..

mine should arrive at my door tomorrow. i can't stop looking at pictures of it.. i don't know how much longer i can wait...!!!!

when i try to flick it open, the blade stops halfway. if i give a really hard flick of the wrist, then it opens but thats the only way it works. the same thing goes with my rookie that I just bought. i have a D2 paramilitary and a centofonte3 that open very easily.

it's not a big deal, i just thought it was open with ease.

The back lock will make flicking harder with a short blade knife due to the spring

Mine should be here in a day or two. It has a friend coming with it.
Pics to follow.

I don’t drink whiskey anymore. I think that’s why I have money left over to buy knives!

One of the reasons that you are feeling more resistance on the Caly 3 vs. the Para-Military, is that the Caly 3 uses a precision fit between the liners and the blade tang. The Para uses phosphor bronze washers, which are softer and much easier to 'break-in' than a precision fit stainless method. That said, it only took a few open/close cycles to render my ZDP Caly 3 smooth as butter. But then again, I never flick my knives open unless they were designed for that purpose.

I've been playing around with it, opening and closing it since I got it. It certainly has gotten a little easier to open, so I am sure that it will get better over time. I am not that worried about it however, since I am like you in that I don't really feel the need to flick the knife open. I bought this knife for an EDC purpose, good concealment(love that low wire clip), and the looks(CF). For all of those things, it has not disappointed me at all. Thanks for the help on that matter!

waiting patiently for mine to come in for over 2 weeks now. I just got a regular Caly 3 and am quite pleased with it.

Size wise it compares very nicely to my Sage, but i doubt it will displace it as my usual EDC. Just love the CF on these knives. The Native IV CF is just too smooth for my taste
