I did it, I finally ordered a Fallkniven A1 Pro.

Will do Knoefz

Great packaging

Even has a seal.

Looks like QC needs review.

Roll on the edge.

Not super sharp from factory, came with a roll from factory. It snags at the roll.

Seems to have more acute convexing like a f1

It's more saber grind until it hits the Lamination line, then "Boom!"
An acute convex with microbevel.

I like it.

If the edge was damage free. It would have been sharper do to the thinner convex, also more bite.
the factory sharp on regular A1 was damage free and cut paper very clean however, it had an over polished, rounded apex at the microbevel, so it didn't cut phonebook paper well or pop arm hair.

I'm unconcerned with factory sharp.

For me it's how sharp they can get, never how sharp the come.

Stropped on Bark River White compound ~8k grit

Then on Flitz metal polish

Machine lines still present at microbevel but it polished nicely.

Damn

JFK wasn't joking though.

This steel responses better to stroping then any I've used so far.

What the picture doesn't show is that the hair was popping of my arm and jumping out of the way.

Very impressive for a 7mm knife the geometry and steel is awesome

The roll is still present however. Which is to be expected. A hard flat stone is what is needed.

It's definitely a sticky sharp steel much like aogami super and Hap40
If you love to sharpen and are obsessed with high sharpness in a survival knife this might be the one.

I write more details in another thread.

Peace

Looks good brother. I'm a fan of the steel. You might try hitting g the roll with a steel to get it back in shape. All I know is this stuff strops up like nuthin I've used n now have no desire for anything else. Good luck with it n.May she bring u much warmth n happiness as well.
Could u take a shot of the spine(lamination). Just curious?

I was skeptical of your claims at first

I'm speechless, you were right!

Nothing I've used strops this good.

I finally found the steel I've been looking for.

Here's a pic. The Lamination line is very faint

Also I can't believe they made this knife thicker with sharper edge geometry.

Well done there Fallkniven.

I've said it everywhere n anywhere but no one took me seriously about this steel. Eventually I was just happy knowing myself. Glad u like it.n enjoy. Thanx for pic too

It looks like the A1 Pro model needs iinitial sharpening already out of the box.
It's not the first A1 Pro that needs attention to the edge when new.
For a user this is no problem and we all know that factory edges sucks!
For a collector it might be another thing, but hey, this knife is made for extreme use!

I share the impression of how easy it is, to quickly give this steel a wickedly sharp edge.
The steel is tough and easy to sharpen like a carbonsteel, but it is also stainless.

The F1 Pro came sharp out of the box, but as I use my 4" knives at work, they need maintenance almost daily.
A few strokes on a finegrit DC/CC stone + honing on leather and it's sharp!

BTW, it's inspiring to read about other members thoughts on the Pro-series, so I'm carrying the F1 Pro again at work.

FWIW,

Let me be clear:
IMO it would be best if Fällkniven did a QC check and hone their knives, when it's a roll or dent before shipping!
I know they have the proper equipment to do that at their HQ.

I agree,

But what alot of people don't realize is that most every brand of survival knife doesn't come super sharp from the box.

Sharpening is an important skill to actually get the most out of any knife.

I don't judge a knife until I've sharpened it

We have to remember all of these knives can get sharper then we can possiblly hope to put an edge on them.

 I remember that You are skilled in making both Your own and other members knives sharp.
Without sharpening skills, I think half the fun with high end knives is gone.
So I agree with You holehartedly, it takes time to evaluate a new knife.

Even a knife in a cheap simple steel, can improve the performance greatly, by proper sharpening.

Great pics, great first impressions! Now go enjoy it out in the woods. Great knife, thanks for sharing your experience.

Is the grind of the A1 and the A1 Pro the same? In the photo it looks like there is more flat on
the Pro but that might be the angle of the photo.

They are different the pro has a more acute saber flat with a convex starting at the lamination, like the F1
It cuts great

Fallkniven managed to get a 7mm stock without losing cutting ability

I'm impressed.

Thanks Bro

Right on!
Getting it dirty is what I like!

I got a brand-new A1 Pro, and I noticed something at the Blade-to-Bolster area.
It looks like a kind white sealant, along the whole base of the blade, where the blade meets the bolster.
Could someone give me any info on this?
Is this a part of fix to the loose bolster problems earlier A1 Pro's had?
See the photo. Nopes, it doesn't work.
I forgot how to insert a photo.

Thanks,
Han.

I own both the A1 and F1 pro, fantastic knives. Fallkniven would be smart to use Cos steel as their standard blade steel. It’s that good!

Will do Knoefz

I'm also a Fallkniven "nerd" Lol. Thought l was the only one who took time off work to anticipate delivery of my S1 Pro. Then did the same a month ago when my A1 Pro made it to my doorstep. I'm now torn in my decision as to which knife l love more. Meanwhile l carry a TK6 on my belt most of the time. Nice to know l have it, even if it is just too darn pretty to use. I'm now awaiting a custom sheath for my A1 Pro. Just knowing l have them is enough. Might be awhile before l actually put them to use. Cheers !

Well done there Fallkniven.

I never realized the difference between the pro and the regular a1 was a longer, significantly thicker blade— thought it was just a slightly moddded steel and a bolster/guard and no leather sheath option. I love the regular s-1, never had any complaints at all about the steel used, but wow!

Ok now which one do you prefer for most uses the S1 Pro or A1 Pro?
