I did it.....

What I did was replace the teflon washers in my LionSteel SR-1 with some phospher-bronze washers. Reason I did so is that I keep a tight pivot on all my knives, and this can cause teflon washers to tear over time if not careful. The teflon washers are .025" thick, while the phospher bronze I used were .020" thick. I'm assuming that I had squished the teflon washers with my tight pivot:D, but when I took them out they were not squished that I could tell. They are thicker than many teflon washers you find as a lot of folders have teflon washer's under .015" thick.

Far as I can tell the .005" less did not make a difference in the knife. Centered blade was still centered, lockup was at the same spot as before, and the action was still smooth.

You know, I don't know for certain that it really makes any difference between teflon and p-b washers. I've read posts here stating that the blade will be less likely to develop side to side play since the teflon can deform, and I've probably said it too.

Anyway, I wanted to see what happened, I had the washers on hand, and they were a very good fit.

So, any other SR-1/SR-1A owners done the same?

Cool, I've seen people claim that PB are smoother, and I've seen people claim that teflon are smoother... Whats your take on it?

I made em even smoother on a BM425... mirror polished all contact surfaces.

I think initially (sp?) the teflon are probably smoother. Once the p-b washers get "broken in" they tend to get smoother. Unless you keep a tight pivot I don't know that one is slicker than the other.

That is what I do with my p-b washers CM. They get broken in before they even go on!
