I decided to ship all of the hawks I got and check-in the rest on my flight bag...You wanna guess how that turned out? My stomach turned when I saw my bag on the conveyor belt missing its luggage strap. I originally thought "theft", but both my boxes where in the bag. All the tape had been removed and EACH INDIVIDUAL KNIFE WAS OPENED!! WTF!?!?! Thankfully, I got home, took inventory and everything was there, including all my clothes. There may be a pair of socks missing, but I am not sure and not really concerned. My luggage strap was just laying in the bag, so the extra effort with the location of everything, the tape in certain places and the luggage strap were all removed from the equation. Had the baggage handlers been extra rough, it could have turned out bad. Oh, I had a pair of scissors taped to the bigger box, but they were nice enough to remove them from the box and throw them "opened" in with my clothes.

I know the TSA are all a bunch of morons, there was absolutely nothing to indicate that there was anything other than knives. No wires, batteries, wall adapters, nothing but clothes and legal to check-in knives. The xray would have made that perfectly clear, but the TSA, as you know, are morons. Did I mention they are morons? If it was a random search, then they are even bigger morons because the chance of finding a bomb in that manner is probably less than winning the lottery.

This could have gone way worse, but I got lucky. Next year, EVERYTHING will be shipped...PERIOD!! Take my advice and do the same.

Sorry to rant, but this totally killed the end of my Blade vacation.

After what happened with some of the guys stuff last year being ripped off, shipping issues as you discribe I KNOW as well as I'm breathing I will be shipping my stuff back rather than be assaulted by the transportation goonies. Almost as if you are violated:mad::thumbdn: Congrats everything did turn out ok though!!!

cutlery locked in declared gun case with or without a gun= problem solved (just answer yes when asked if they are unloaded and volunteer no more details)

I corrected my spelling errors, I was just so pissed when I typed it all.

Anyway, yes, to have lost a Busse would have sucked, however, I had a $1200 Kiku Matsuda knife in the bag as well. Funny thing is, that one didn't appear to be unwrapped, they just opened the box.

The more I think about it, the more I want to kick myself in the head: a Kiku Matsuda knife, an FBM, boss jack, leaner meaner and two shanks...AHHHHHHH, WTF was I thinking!?!?!?

I know you do not have to use TSA locks on a firearm case, so that may be a great option. Thanks Tim!!

I have done the Check as a gun thing for the last 4 years and has worked great for me.

I get a rifle case, load everything in, put a little padding in.

When you get to the airport, you tell the baggage clerk you have a firearm to check and they either walk you over or tell you to go over to the TSA office and they inspect your "Gun" case ask if they are unloaded , you say yes.

They put a card that says unloaded firearm in with it, then you lock it with your locks, regular master locks, they have no reason at all to open it now, and in my experience they never have.

The last 2 years I have actually taken a Gun with me, since Georgia recognizes Arizona's permit, I just have it unloaded in a holster mags unloaded in the case and make sure the ammo is in a original box and you are good to go. No need for an pistol box or anything.

I hate the TSA. they are beyond regulation and decency at this point! glad to hear you got your stuff

Sounds like the same jerk that inspected my bag... :thumbdn:
Played with my knives, busted a zipper, threw everything back in.

I have the inspection card, already called TSA ATL... and I will be taking it up with TSA home office tomorrow. :grumpy:

But first...sleep.

Thankfully my bag wasn't raped too badly. Glad that your knives were all there and hope that when you rest up, it won't rain on your parade

Makes me glad KCI uses their own inspection force. One of only 5 airports allowed to do so and have always been rated (by inspectors and flyers) as excellent. Of course, I still think we should simply give everyone who flies a knife when they get on board. That way, any hijackers would be significantly outnumbered!

Glad your "adventure" turned out OK.

Called TSA today...

The TSA fella that I called did say that they do appreciate calls when problems are experienced. I asked him how they can determine who the responsible agent was and was told that if you provide the approximate check-in/baggage drop off time, date, and your bag number (which is on the sticker, destination tag and bag claim check provided by the airline) then they can zero in on who inspected the bag. Just like the US Postal inspectors say, patterns help to catch the ones not doing their job well...so if you have a problem, give them a call at the number on the TSA card left in your bag (TSA Contact Center- 866.289.9673 or 571.227.2900) and wait through the recording to be connected to a live person.

...So don't let bad TSA inspectors do bad things. ;)

Hold them accountable for their actions, call TSA like the above poster and get their internal quality control department on that persons case. People don't change unless there are complaints. I bet he really enjoyed touching all your knives, maybe slashing a few things too in private.

A friend got a new bow case for christmas and took it back with him on his flight home. At the check in, he opened the case for inspection (which was empty) and was told by one TSA agent that he could now lock the case and check it aboard. He does this and checks in the baggage as instructed. While in line to go through securty, hears his name being called overhead to return to the baggage check. He goes back in time to find that a different TSA agent has used a prybar to break both lock hinges off the case to "open and inspect the contents" of the empty bow case. The broken baggage is wraped in tape and has a cleared by TSA sticker on it. Now he has a useless new aluminum bow case with pryed off locking latches. The person who did this escaped into the woodwork quietly without being identified or confronted.

YES! This works well. Because if they do decide to open the case they generally do it with you standing there. I check guns and knives all the time and this works very well.

I had the same thing happen. The lock was neatly clipped off my bag and inserted within the bag along with a little note from the TSA. Something about terrorizing me in order to prevent me from terrorizing others....:(

We are living in a very screwed up country right now.

Fortunately, nothing was taken, although the flight itself was another disaster, which included hours of delay, while sitting next to a claustrophobic passenger, and even a good tail strike on takeoff rotation....I think I will be driving up next year.
