I Did Something Stupid (After Blade)

Keep in mind, once TSA -- professional, courteous gentlemen that they are -- have checked you in, your property goes to the baggage handlers.

Ship it home.

Just got off the phone with TSA. I spoke with a very nice lady for roughly 30+ minutes about my experience and it was all logged.

Anyway, here are a couple of things I picked up:

1 - Never use tape. The TSA will slash it open to check whats inside a box. If anything, tape brings unwanted attention to an item. (This is really stupid)
2 - You have two years to make a claim for missing or damaged items, not this 24 hour BS that you see online.
3 - They want your feedback if ANYTHING REMOTELY pissed you off about their service. Jaxx and I both spoke to very nice people in the process.
4 - Retain your luggage tag no matter what and try to keep track of when you checked everything in. All this information helps and thankfully I had it all.
5 - Checked guns/gun cases can still be opened and/or set off an alarm during the xray. If you use non-TSA locks, they will attempt to contact you prior to breaking them open. The ironic thing is, if they do break them open, then the gun can't be shipped anyway. She said each airport is different though.

I am supposed to be contacted by the customer care manager of the TSA for the Atlanta airport soon to discuss this issue further, so we will see how that goes.

At the end of the day, it cost me $85 with $1500 insurance to overnight the 2 rattle hawks, 3 sniper hawks and ESSE 5. I reinforced the hell out of the box, but it landed on my doorstep just fine. I will be shipping in the future, period, when it comes to large purchases. In the case of another trip to Alaska, I will bring a firearm and pack my knife or two along with it.

On that note n2s, I would have been really screwed if I had left Sunday.

Big "+1" on the benefits of travelling with a declared firearm in a rifle case ... once the paperwork is done the smoothness of going through airports etc is such a boon ... I've been all over the world using these and never an issue ... also found that if I flew with the blazer and tie on ( on seperate flights to the team flight where I was flying home later after some extra days holiday ) I would often get "complimented" into first class or business class ... B.A. have done that for me twice

..." You may be arrested for any remarks or jokes abut TSA"

TSA has got to be some of the rudest people on earth and allowed to get away with it.... !@#$suckers

I had the same thing happen. The lock was neatly clipped off my bag and inserted within the bag along with a little note from the TSA. Something about terrorizing me in order to prevent me from terrorizing others....:(

We are living in a very screwed up country right now.

Fortunately, nothing was taken, although the flight itself was another disaster, which included hours of delay, while sitting next to a claustrophobic passenger, and even a good tail strike on takeoff rotation....I think I will be driving up next year.

n2s

All this ... crap ... is why I drive.

I really don't want to put in all those hours on the road, but TSA really doesn't give me any reasonable options.

This. One's opinion voiced with spending money is infinitely louder than an opinion with voice alone. This is how the TSA is now. Compare that at how airport security was and extrapolate into the future.
