I didn't carry a knife today!

...and I reached for it at least 3 times and came up empty handed o_O.

Never leave home without it

May we never have to face the shameful indignity of having to borrow a knife, ever.

I always feel naked when I take a flight or go someplace, like a concert, where I'm not allowed to carry a knife. It feels so unnatural!

As far as I can recall, the last time I went an entire day without a knife was back in 2003, when I flew up to Sacramento to visit an old friend for a couple days. I only took a carry-on, so obviously I hadn't packed a knife. It felt uncomfortable without a knife, but I still had a good time.

As soon as I got back, I put a knife in my pocket. :p

I would've stopped at a local sporting goods store after leaving the airport, bought a $20 Kershaw and gifted it to my friend before I got on the flight to go home.
I do this whenever possible. It always gets the rolled eyes from my wife when I insist on stopping somewhere before we get to the hotel/friend's house. At the end of the trip, if I don't have someone to gift it to, I usually mail it to myself, then gift it when I get home.

You chose to not carry a knife? And it was dumb? Is water still wet?
One day in 1997 (yeah, I remember the year), I went to a movie and for some odd reason decided not to put my knife in my pocket. At the time, my only EDC knife was an old Victorinox Spartan SAK. I just felt too lazy to drop it in my pocket along with my other stuff. Then guess what? The movie I saw (forget the name) had a scene with a SAK in it! I immediately regretted not carrying my knife and was never again lazy about carrying a knife. Yeah, it was dumb. Luckily it wasn't needed that day when I was out and about. When I got home, I mentally apologized to the knife for not carrying it. :)

so many places here where a knife is not allowed: banks, schools, libraries, govt buildings, most bars, restaurants and stores. I always have a folder in the glovebox, fixed blade and multi-tool in spare tire kit, fixed blade and multi-tool in tackle box. last thing i need is run into Barney(you know with his one bullet in his shirt pocket under his deputy badge) if I trip a metal detector with my EDC. have enough trouble with metal detectors because of steel knee(and some of the clowns run the metal detector over my bare knee)

Huh.. I feel like an outcast now. There's some times where I purposely leave a knife out of my pocket for one reason or another.

Just last week I left my pocket empty to mow the yard. Sitting on a riding mower for 2 and a half hours doesn't feel "knife-worthy" to me.. Maybe I'm the strange one.

The only time I’m without my knife is if I’m somewhere where they’re not allowed. Bigger theme parks, court houses and concerts. And I very rarely go to those places. I haven’t been on an airplane since 1992 and hopefully won’t be on one ever again.

The first thing I do when I wake up is put my knife and phone in my pockets. I have a bad shoulder so I always have a shoulder brace on, my pen is clipped to that so I sleep with my pen. But it’s a nice pen so I’m OK with that. :D

I feel more naked without my gun than my knife. I can always just open packages with my teeth or use my keys in a pinch.

But no gun? That's dangerous around here...
My keys don't work well against ravaging ninjas.

I keep a Byrd Cara Cara 2 in each car so if I don't grab a knife on my way out the door I still have one available.

That’s why I don’t like going to government buildings for my work; can’t bring my lovely knives with me in there. :(

I know the feeling. I occasionally would forget my knife at home and would spend all day feeling for it. I now have a knife that I am not ashamed of and use for hard without worrying about it. It is the infamous
Kershaw Blur BDZ1. I bought it used for $20.00 and have beaten the hell out of it for year and all it asks in return is that I strop it after hard use and occasionally sharpen it. It is probably the best inexpensive knife for hard use that I've had. I know that a lot of my Spyderco's and Steel Will's would do the job as well I find it hard to use my expensive knives for real hard use.

I forgot that I do have a more expensive knife for EDC, my PM 2 S30V that I also bought used but I feel less guilty using the Blur. A normal person may ask why do we all carry expensive knives at all, and my answer is
#1 because I can
#2 because it feels good. On that note I am signing off.

It was the day I was born and those 2 days in the hospital before going home...had at least a push blade attached to my diaper after that. Yeah I was that kind of child :D

I have had the the same routine, for over 50 years. When I get up, on goes my wrist watch and then my knife goes in the pocket.
I'm totally lost without my watch, so its a pretty slim chance the knife is missed.

I go through my mental checklist everyday before I leave the house. Phone, wallet, firearm, keys, knife, watch.
