... All this has come to be a bit shocking to me. I got my first SAK in 1969, and I've carried one literally all over the world. When I was stationed in Germany, I had a SAK. When I was stationed stateside, had a SAK. When I did my tour in Vietnam, I had a SAK. When I got married 50 years ago, I hd a SAK in my pocket. My kids carry SAK's because thats what daddy had. My grandkids carry SAK's. Is this some sort of senior senile treason?....
All of the above can only mean one thing to me: at heart you are still very much a SAK person. Respect and accept it. Over the last year or so I had my Opinel and 'traditional' moments as well. Some 20 purchases and some good money later, I just can't give up what I know best and what growing up as a boy in western Europe was the only knife I really knew existed: the Swiss type. I will no longer be tempted. Everything in life has its pros and its cons and not one knife is perfect. Accepting that has given me the peace of mind that a SAK, even with its imperfections, is still 'good enough' for me and my urban life in 21st century Holland. I don't see myself ever carrying something else over a SAK no more.
