I don't care if clips are black or shiny, but I still want to suggest something

I figured I ought to add my voice here as well. One of the reasons that I carry my EDI Genesis as much as I do is in fact the clip. I much prefer the CPM440V of my Starmate and Military but too much of the handle is exposed and I almost lost my Starmate as it worked its way further up in my front pocket. My Reeve Sebenza is also a rather deep pocket carry but the clip is nowhere as secure as that on my Genesis. The EDI clip is very secure and although some have complained that the fastening screws abrade their pockets, I find that they enhance the clip's secureness.

Bottomline is that I too would like to see much deeper positioning of Spyderco knives in my pocket through an improved clip design.

One of the early Clipit prototypes (1981) had a deep pocket clip. We left a strip on the front of the back side scale and bent it 180 degrees.

Clips are still a big question and as mentioned Spyderco R&D is currently addressing this issue as an ongoing process.

Clips are a fairly new concept (less than 20 years). Now that clips are gaining acceptance, development can occur more effectively. I know there are a number of custom makers now addressing the question of clip evolution and refinemenyt (Ralf & Carson), as well as factories other than Spyderco (EDI & Al Mar). I believe we'll see a lot of improvement in clips over the next 20 years.

As with most designs of anything, there are always trade offs that must be balanced; Access against low profile, tip up to tip down, colored or shiny, etc., etc.

I know that all opinions are appreciated by Spyderco and considered. Additional questions? Is the demand great enough to defer the cost of tooling? Will the retail price (after cost, risk and time) be affordable? There are many questions compounding the "What I would like" question.

Sal,

As to your query about pricing vis-a-vis tooling etc., from my knothole the equation is simple: when I buy a knife, I buy it for its utility; if the clip as the weak link in the chain causes the knife to be lost, I no longer have any utility. I personally have no problem paying extra for utility be it in premium blade material like CPM440V or Talonite, a super solid lock, or in a fool proof clip.
