I don't get love for folders!

I live in the city. A big fixed blade hanging from my belt would draw a lot unwanted attention.

Convenience and functionality.First off I can reach down, grab the folder clipped to my pocket, and open it with one hand. Essential for when you have to hold something in place and cut it. I can also close the knife with one hand and clip it back to my pocket, with one hand. You can also buy better better steel in different designs for more specific purposes.
I value SWAK's and multitools, they are great, but my one hand knives are a lot more convenient for me. My two cents, take it or leave it.

I agree, its madness! The whole danged obsession is nutso...... every time I get a new knife I think to myself: where did this come from? What am I going do this with this thing, I paid how much for this toy?

Its crazy..... CRAZY!

And then I see the fools tooling around in $40,000 cars and I feel much better. :D

Funny and I feel vindicated as well when I can use excuses. LOL I do not have to use excuses though I just like a good knife and sometimes a pretty knife. Not my fault I have so many I would have to go up and count them to tell you how many I own. Or maybe it is my fault :p I will never use all of them, ever. But for me it gives me the opportunity to give an underprivileged person in our Pathfinder Club a knife. "Club within my church" like boysouts/girlscouts. We all have our reasons and excuses but one thing we have in common is that we just like different knives and we do not have to use an excuse for that.

Kind Regards,

Daniel

No seriously,

I mean why buy $100+ folders? What do you even need folder for? Cut cardboards? I can do that with my 10 dollar SAK with little problem.

But no, I am clearly missing you fanboys' POV.
Help me out gentlemen.

I seriously do not know what a SAK is can you fill me in. I might have to buy one what the heck.

Daniel

Swiss army knife. No thanks I like tools not toys. I may like their new ones with the "Real" blades as far as size but I already have single blade folders and lots of them. And I thought I was answering a question that was pointing at folders and you were biased to fixed blades. Sorry but at least you know why the varity and different kinds in the form of our hobby.

Kind Regards,

Daniel

Maximus,

Please read the trolling sticky. You need at least 100 legible posts at a recognized grammar forum before being eligible to post inflammatory drivel.

How do you expect to be properly insulted by real members if they first have to have their toddlers translate your adolescent ramblings?

Try going into a bank with your sheath knife on your belt and see if you do not draw unwanted/unwarented attention. Face it a folder is just a handier choice to carry everyday and not a sheath knife.

Daniel, AKA nativecajun

I do it all the time. I have a custom 3" blade pocket fixed that I carry when I wish to be very discreet.

Otherwise I carry my Fallkniven F1 on my belt. Tuck the end of the sheath into my back pocket, untuck my shirt.Pretty simple really , and just as (if not more) handy than a folder.

Through I do understand the "to each his own". Just don't count out a fixed blade for carry everywhere, everyday. (Where legal :))

There are likely as many reasons as there are forum members for why we love folders. For me, my search began after I broke a cheap hex socket and cut my hand when working on my motorcycle about 7 years ago. Up until then, I was satisfied with having the proper tool, and failed to appreciate quality tools.

I have a deep appreciation for quality tools and craftsmanship. It was only a matter of time before my search for tools turned to knives. After all, knives are extremely valuable tools and are used frequently in a variety of fashions, from the kitchen to the garage, work and beyond. Look around, quality is everywhere with knife makers and manufacturers, and is easy to appreciate.

Sorry boys but I smell a troll!

I simply can't be asked to get my break dancing cardboards sized properly without spending a minimum of $187 on a folding knife. THe edges come out all jiggy.

Dear troll, please give me the fixed blade fanboy's POV. Thank you.

Hey! Are you that guy in the cigar forums posting that you don't get $10 cigars when a pack of cigarretes is only 5 bucks? Just checking...

Who needs a $250,000 house when a $50 wal-mart tent can protect you from the elements? Why buy a nice car when you get a Geo Metro for only $500? Who needs to eat fruits, meats, and vegetables, when ramen noodles are only $.20 a package?

Help me out gentlemen.

In 3 years or 63 years, everyone reading this will be worm food. And when we are long gone, no one will know or care that we spent big bucks on a sweet folder (or many of them) way back in 2010.

If your finances are otherwise under control, you are saving for retirement, college for the kids, etc., I see no reason not to carry a nice folder. Especially if you aren't blowing your discretionary funds on a bass boat, golf trips or Gentlemen's Clubs.

Do you want to spend your money, or save it so your wife's next husband can spend it after you are dead? :)

Folders are just handier to carry and the laws in many places don't make packing a fixed blade near as easy.

Folders fit into my pockets. Usually with ease.

I can't fit a 9" total length fixed blade in my pocket, but a 4" folder is fine and dandy.

I carry $100.00+ folders 'cause a Bud K Jungle Bowie clashes with my suit and tie at work.

I am little surprised by how my question/query was received here. I guess, I shouldn't have put the word "fanboy".

Anyways, I understand that it's 'cool' to have a folder but why spend $100+ for multiple when 95% of the time, the knife will be unseen. I guess it's a self satisfaction that you get from knowing that something is backing you up.
If it was me, I would just get a decent folder for ~25 bucks b/c folder are versatile but can't do any heavy work (unless you have something like CS Rajah). So I didn't initially see the point of carrying something that would be so expensive but would do a task in relatively same amount of time with same amount of energy with something far more cheaper.

I had harder time understanding people (not hardcore collectors) who have multiple folders. One can argue, I sped $100+ on spyderco b/c I don't want my knife to get dull, I want don't it to chip, or break at the joint or not get rusted or corroded. all are very good reasons, so why buy something else which is very similar and also very expensive.

My goal for asking the question here was just to get the better understanding people's mentality not to poke sticks at anyone's POV. So, I hope I am little clear now.

So you mean to tell me you only have one of each type of knife? One folder one fb etc? If not why did you choose to get more than one? Use your brain man.

And if you don't have more than one of any type you're probably not a knife enthusiast and don't belong here.
