I got this knife as a gift...it's an Explorer Solingen Alpine Hunter. It says #30-375W and hand crafted in Germany laser etched on the left side of the blade. I don't have the capability to include pics:( . Can anyone tell me what type of steel this thing uses, it's value, and anything useful on this knife? It would be much appreciated...Thanks:confused:

Thanks I checked out the link. The brand is right, but those particular models aren't it. It's a fixed blade, about 6" of blade length and has a bulbous like tip for heavy chopping.

sounds like the blade is a German style skinning/hunter style similar to the puma white hunter blade. The blade steel more than likely is 420. Most German stainless steel is 420 and has been for some years now, there is a possibility that it may be 440. Ive seen a knife, I believe is like the one your talking about, with wood handles and explorer etched into the blade. I have a boker knife with a similar blade that has bone handles on it. Is the blade and handle one piece? If it is then it is similar to my boker, and similar to the old puma white hunters (not the new ugly ones, or in my opinion ugly). The blade crossguard and handle would be one piece, and then the handle slabs wood be wood, or bone, or stag. You can go to the knife centers index, go under puma, then click on puma white hunter. The blade shape would be similar to yours (if its what I think it is).

Hope this helps some

sincerely,
John

Looks almost identical! The handles are wood and are riveted. I doubt my knife cost as much as the Puma. It came with a rather cheapie nylon sheath.:grumpy: Thanks for your help.:)

The average price of this knife runs around 39 dollars (I have seen one for sale near me).

Your welcome!!!!

you might want to hold onto this as you dont see many of them in the states, and its a well made knife. Unfotunately, like you said, the sheath leaves something to be desired!!
