On January 30 of this year I contacted Ryan Johnson at RMJ Forge about buying a traditional tomahawk. He helped with some miner details and I sent him an $175 deposit thru PayPal which he confirmed that he recieved and that the order was placed. I called him in June He said he was shipping out several hawks like I was discribing and mine could be one of them. If not, mine would be shipped soon. August,I e-mail him again with a copy of the original order and paypal transaction. He promptly e-mailed back to let me know he would have it ready in a month. December 8th no hawk I again sent him a copy of order and Paypal transaction. I also told him I would be happy to send him the remainder of the balance. I just wanted a realistic time frame and reasurnce I would be recieving a product. He thanked me for my patience and said he would have the hawk ready in one week and not to send payment until I recieved the hawk.
On the 18th I sent another e-mail just being curious if the hawk was ready to ship. As of this post he has not responded. I understand it's the holiday season and the hawk could very well be in the mail trying to get to me. I also understand His father is sick, He's had problems with his e-mail sevice and he's trying to fulfil military orders with his tactical hawks. I'm also getting the feeling I'm getting the run around.
I'm going to call him monday to see if I can find something out. I'm probably going to get a promise of another completion date that he has no intention of keeping.
I really don't know how to aproach this and get the Tomahawk I've wanted for almost a year now. I'll be more than happy to send him the $175 I owe. I just don't want lose more money. I'm starting to get a little ticked off and need some advise on how to further aproach this. Thank you for any and all help.

If I'm reading this correctly you're rightfully getting a bad vibe. That's all that's required in my lowly opinion to request a full refund and for both parties to move on. I'm in a situation right now where I'm getting a bad vibe and getting pissed is just plain not worth any piece of steel. I've found most around here to be worthy of unconditional trust so big trouble is authorized when that is dishonored and not resolved to your 100% satisfaction.

So it's been about 11 months and STILL no 'hawk? I'd demand my deposit money back and move along. It doesn't seem like he has time for you, and I would think that your money can be better spent elsewhere.

For my two cents worth, I'd go for the refund and try American Tommahawk Co. They are good folks, easy to deal with, and have integrity. Good luck!:D

One thing that really gets on my nerves is the excuse some makers use.

I want to note first that the majority of makers are honest and you will get what you are promised. If any problems pop up then most makers will let you know and make an extra effort to make it right.

However, its makers like this (assuming your story is complete and accurate) that make people think twice about ordering. Delivery dates come and go, you contact them each time and are promised a new date and are thanked for understanding....then the new date comes and gos.

Then the maker starts in with excuses (like the ones you listed), such as email problems, sick family members, and the biggest one of all....filling militarty orders for our soldiers.

Understand, sick family members take priority, and im all for our soldiers getting what they need....but that assumes those reasons are real.

Sometimes it seems like a maker will give people the runaround, and they know that they can appeal to your patriotic side by claiming military orders. They know most people would not dare to question the military excuse. But you have to wonder if they really are doing that, or if they just need some excuse to get you to buzz off.

Probably the best bet is to cancel the order and try to get your money back.

I'd get my money back. Why would you even want to own something from this guy? It will just piss you off every time you look at it.

Thank you all for your replies. I know you are only getting my side of the story and I dought Ryan will post here to defend himself. I'm going to call him tomorow and see what's going on. Like I said, the hawk could very well be on it's way. If not I'm asking for a refund. Ryan makes fantastic tomahawks but his custumer service is a little lacking.
I thought I was going to get the tomahawk I always wanted:( .

Heres his website: www.rmjforge.com

if i was a wanting a 'hawk, after that amount of time, i'd get my $$ back, and get a ATC 'hawk.

prob ya shoulda done that in the first place, imho, they rock when it comes to 'hawks, and customer service is really excellent, i have heard. andy is really proud of his products, and stands behind them 100%. bet ya wouldnt have to wait months for one, either!!

Get your money back and get an ATC. There is NO excuse for making someone wait a year, period.

Try contacting PayPal. They have some procedures in place to help buyers who got ripped off. It is as follows:

"PayPal's Buyer Complaint Process helps protect PayPal members when a merchant does not deliver goods as promised. If you have been unable to resolve a dispute with a seller, you may file a Buyer Complaint Form (go to the Security Center link in the footer of any PayPal page) to initiate an investigation. PayPal will investigate your complaint and attempt to recover any funds you are owed. You will be entitled to the return of any funds PayPal is able to collect on your behalf. However, fund recovery is not guaranteed.

Additionally, buyers who qualify for eBay's insurance policy (currently limited to $200) may recover up to an additional $200 of protection from PayPal if their purchase was made from a verified PayPal seller.

Please review the Consumer Protection Programs section of our User Agreement to learn the specific terms and conditions of the Buyer Complaint Process
."

Don't send in deposits. If a maker is any good, he can sell your order if you back out of the deal. The only exceptions would be a if you know the maker and you're asking for a significant investment in materials the maker doesn't normally use (e.g. gold). Another exception would be a good faith deposit to someone who you meet and appears honest. In this case the amount should be small enough that you don't care if it's gone...$35.

Stoneage..........did you hear back from Ryan on your hawk???? Wanted to know how this all turned out for you.
