Hey guys
Thought I'd post a random thread about some random topic:

Well straight to the point then. I don't own a SOG knife! What? Yeah I don't... I have cold steel, kershaw, benchmade, spyderco, ZT, crkt, boker, gerber, and a "few" moras but why don't I have a SOG? Well, I'll tell ya, they don't spark my eye at all. I haven't checked out many but the ones I have seem pretty ehh. Nothing special TO ME. I'm not saying they aren't but now I find myself asking "why don't I have one?" And we all know that feeling right? So now my real question is which one should I get?
Not picky at all I just am not a fan of serrated knives otherwise I'm open to all suggestions. No specific use of it. Just want something I can trust will be tough as sh@&

I like them too,(Scuba Demo 2.0,Creed,NW Ranger,Bowie,Seal Team Elite TiNi) Agency too,but seem very fragile to me

SOG was more appealing in the early nineties or so. The original Tomcat is a classic. I have an original Tomcat 2 that is really cool. Another current folder is the Vulcan Tanto 3.5 version. It's really cool if you can locate one in San Mai 3 steel.

That's cool you say that because I don't own a single knife In San mei I'm gonna check it out

If you want a folder any of SOG's high end folders that are still being made in Seki is the way to go.
VG10 either solid or laminate and the arc-lock system which I find smoother than my Benchmades.
Fixed blade for actual use? In the 5 inch class Seal Pup Elite straight edge. Or NW Ranger, Field Pup.
Bigger bowie? Try the Tech Bowie. These are all very solid Aus8 knives. All of these are reviewed widely
on various sites and yotube.

I own a SOG Seal Team Elite, always wished I had bought a Seal Pup Elite instead. Straight edge of course.

The only other SOG knife I own is a discontinued folder. It's called the Bluto.

I call it my favorite.

SOG Tech Bowie is a great blade. Really nothing else like it in the marketplace. When you hold it, it just makes you smile.

The only SOG I carry somewhat often is the Twitch II. It has a bit more blade play than I would prefer but it is a slick little knife.

I dont own any sogs but ive handled many and worked on a few. I had a chance to get a fatcat for a song and didn't, still regret it because of how cheap it was. Buddy had a twitch II and that was cool.But... I do NOT recommend a trident for the love of all that is holy. Friend basically gave me a basket case trident to fix (I love a challenge and he didnt expect me to fix it) But holy cow, I dont know what those desiners were smoking but those things look like a Rube Goldberg machine inside, insanely over complicated. Between tiny springs,a ball bearing thats microscopic, levers, and switches its mind boggling. Theres like 20 moving parts inside! But got it cleaned, smoothed and actually flipping again (sans parts). D/A autos are more simple with less parts than the trident.

Find earlier ones made in Japan...the original scuba demo was cool

For current folders, I recommend the pentagon elite...very underrated IMO...v10, made in japan, smooth as silk action. Wouldn't say it is tough, but no folders are really, joint rotation on a single screw pivot prevents any folder from excelling at any task but cutting...

I always though the SOG Twitch was pretty innovative. I don't know of any other lock-back flippers.

You can still find the bluto around. The vulcan drop or tanto is solid. So are the visionary 1&2. Despite all the hoopla sogs cryo treated aus8 performs pretty well. The newer kiku folder definitely has a distinctive look and looks like a cutter

The only SOG folder I have is the "Slim Jim", it's ok, small light and sharp. I have a couple of their fixed blades I like more, a Daggert 2, and a Swedge 3. :)

When I first joined BF, I was very interested in the line and they all date prior to the Fusion line. I have a fair number which include the folders Blink, Twitch II, Twitch XL, Air SOG, Vulcan, Mini Vulcan, and Access Card 2.0; and fixed blades Field Pup, Seal Pup Elite, Revolver Hunter, Northwest Ranger, Tigershark (2), Tech I, and Tech II bowies. I stopped buying SOGs when they came out with the Sogzilla line.

Of those listed my favorites are the Twitch II, Twitch XL, Mini Vulcan, and Access Card 2.0 folders and probably the Seal Pup Elite in a fixed blade. The Access Card 2.0 stays on my desk for letter or package opening or as a backup blade in the woods. I occasionally carry the Mini Vulcan but in the past it was a favorite along with the Twitch II. The Seal Pup Elite used to be my general woods bumming knife. If you want to purchase one, I would suggest that you get one made in VG-10 first in a model that appeals to you.

I don't own a SOG either . I was going to get one just because Nutnfacy told me too :D . Then I change my mind . I do like the small twitch1 .

Well I made my choice
Sog tech bowie I was sold on the solid look of it
And how it will look good in my case or in my hunting pack:)
Thanks everyone for the replys can't wait for my first SOG!

If you like the Benchmade Axis-lock, then you will also like the SOG Arc-lock. I have a Spec-Elite 2 and I really like it. Its a tad big, but you might like the 1, which is smaller.
