I don't own any nice traditional slippies.

Another recommendation for Queen's D2 steel in curly zebrawood. Their 4" stockman is one of my regular EDCs.

But I think I've done a bad job of getting my preferences across here. I like the looks of wood handles and I like the curves and shapes of a lot of traditional knives. It's just the bone that I don't care for. The jig patterns just look odd. It's just a mental thing. I never said my preferences made any sense! :P

No worries. We all have certain preferences. Going with wood gives you a larger range of choices in patterns and steel than micarta or G10. Here's a few to get started.

One note about GEC. If you see something posted here that you like, it may not necessarily be easy to find one. They make a lot of smaller runs of knives. For an example, I really like my #56 Reverse Dog Leg in coconut palm. It was a very short run though. Only 7 made according to the production totals on their website.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but the A.G. Russel medium gunstock would be a great one to ease you into the traditionals. It's got most of the qualities of tactical knife but in a traditional style. Thicker blade, micarta handle, locking, very well made and a great price.

While I have a number of modern folders from the usual big 3 suspects, one of the ones that got me back into slipjoints was a Spyderco.
Case uses G-10, carbon fiber and delrin, Buck uses delrin (or other grippy plastic, not sure what), GEC has wood and acrylic and micarta like this favorite of mine:

One of the things I like about traditionals is that I'm not stuck with only black G-10. I like it, but so many of my modern knives have that same look, it gets sorta boring even though the knives are great.

Stick around and check out all the great knives here, it's a terrific place!

I like it too, and have wanted one ever since I first saw some pictures you posted. Gorgeous knife! Wish I could find one.

To the OP, give a traditional pattern a try with traditional bone/wood/delrin scales etc, and you will find that you like it.

Thanks, Doug. I know they've used the palm on a couple of other patterns also. I recall seeing a Courthouse Whittler still available the other day from one dealer.

Yeah, the coconut palm was nearly tempting enough for me to consider it, even though that pattern doesn't really appeal to me. Guess I'll just have to enjoy pictures of yours!

Traditional, bigger than a Peanut, Micarta, Nice...

This meets all your criteria and I've been happy with it. Keep an eye out in the Exchange.
