I don't own any of your knives, but I am impressed.

I was reading through your forums trying to find one bad word about your knives. Just looking for some type of criticism. I came across a post about a chipped blade and thought "AH-ha!" I went to read through it and was extremely impressed at how you dealt with the customer. You immediately took responsibility and went out of your way to offer a solution. This alone makes your knives worth their weight in gold. I have watched and read reviews about your knives and am extremely impressed. From what I gather, there is no better knives at this pricepoint.

That said, I will be buying one of your esee-3 and an esee-5.
Questions,
1. If I want the esee-5 with a molle sheath as opposed to the kydex, do I have to order it seperate?(I want to be able to lash it to my pack)
2. Would you trust these knives with your life? (I plan on going out for 4-6 weeks next spring)
3. Do you think there are better knives in the 150 to 200 range? (Basically, is it the best knife for the price, or is it the best knife period?.)

hi and welcome to the group,

1) the kydex sheath that comes with the 5 has molle locks that attach to the back to put it on your bag. or you can get the molle fabric back seperatly.

2) yeah i would trust them with my life, i've beat the hell out of mine just doing work around the ranch and never had a problem at all.

3)there are some knives that are as good the becker's come to mind, but you have to upgrade alot of things to make them as good as the esee's. as for more expensive sure lots of great knives out there just not that much better for the expense for me.

bottom line for me is that the esee knives are tough hold a great edge, the best warranty around, and the price is very resonable.

take it easy

I was talking about a sheath that doesn't have the kydex at all. I've seen a couple pics in this forum. They are all nylon (kevlar?) and have a pounch on the front with a strap on the handle. I trust the kydex sheaths on my belt, but I tend to throw my bag around a lot, and just want that little extra security.

Also thanks for the answers. I am sure I will be purchasing these knives within the next couple weeks.

there is a seperate sheath available on the website made of cordura for the esee5. however the kydex is very tough i had one tied to my 4wheeler for months and beat the hell out of it with no problems at all.

1. Has been been covered
2. has been covered as well. But yes I would trust them with my life.
3. I would not say there are better knives in that price range, but perhaps even or better for certain jobs.

2;I have an izula and i love it. its tough as nails Albeit a bit small but yes id trust it with my life. Planning on getting a 4 after the holidays.
3; Wouldnt say they are the best soley because i have not much other knives. I do believe they are one of the best bang for the buck knives. Just got a Bark river Bravo1 which is a bit more expensive than the ESEE-4, and thicker too. Havent been abe to use it besides sharpening and slices for fun but it feels good

I just got a RC6, been using it alot for the last week and i must say i'm impressed, this comes from a guy that has 50 Busse high end knives. Having had many knives in my 63 years i can honestly say i think you'd be hard pressed to find a better knife for the price.

I have an Izula and an RC-6, and I must say, I'm impressed. I would rely on them with my life. An ESEE 5 is even more bombproof than either of those, too. If I were looking for a knife in the ESEE 5 category (by that I mean a beefy, heavy knife that will tolerate abuse without complaint) it would be the 5 hands down. I would like to pick one up when I'm out of college and have a real job.. ha
Buy it, use it, and love it. That knife will treat you right, brohemian.

Right there is what I REALLY love about this company, and I think, helps make this forum what it is. Don't get me wrong, the knives are the $#it, but I really believe Jeff and Mike mean it when they say, $ isn't why they make knives, customer satisfaction is. They get their kicks out of making people happy, not rolling in $. It is a rarity to find a company like this these days...

Thanks Jeff and Mike!

I really appreciate it and will continue to buy your most excellent products!

Erik

Not to be egotistical but one of the things that separates us from other companies is we contsantly go and do to see what works and what doesn't. Each trip (out of the many we have made - be it jungle or anywhere else) always teaches us lessons and helps us tweak gear. I "abuse" just about everything I own during trips, including high-end Canon SLRs and Macbooks because I want to know what works and what doesn't when the chips are down, then pass that information on to others so they don't have to go through the same mistakes we've made. Not saying that everyone will like the same type of gear but I am saying the only way to really know what works is to get out there and use the hell out of it. DPx Gear and RYP's vast amount of experience in remote and dangerous places is going to set the standard for certain types of hard use gear once we get it rolling.

Izula, ESEE5 and HEST.

Izula is my EDC knife - I may forget my wallet, but not my Izzy.
ESEE5 is my "walk through the valley in the shadow of death" knife... HEST is its little(r) brother. Together they are like Kimbo (street fighter) and Joe Pesci (from Casino).

I would trust my life on these knives as much as any person can invest confidence in their tools.

I also have the utmost confidence in RAT/ESEE that if I do break something, whatever broke it is MUCH worse for the wear, and there will be a cold beer offered as I tell the tale of how it happened.

Personally I would trust my life with any ESEE,DPX knife OR gear. Or any thing they recommend Period. Great company, and awesome people.

wow.. this thread blew up. I really appreciate everyone's input. I live in st. paul, mn and am planning on doing alot more outdoor activities once I get my business off the ground. working for yourself, by yourself is going to be a freeing experience.

Going north of the cities here there are countless state forests that you can get lost for days in. I hope these knives will be put to good use. I will let you know how they hold up in those conditions. Also I'm looking for a decent molle style 3 day pack, my alice pack has about had its last trip. Any recommendations? I was also thinking about the snugpak rocketpak.

So anyways, thanks for all the input.
